Fix a white Cydia icon

Nov 30, 2010 - 21 Comments

fix white cydia icon A white Cydia icon indicates that Cydia either needs to update or have a tethered boot with the aid of jailbreak software to run. If you have recently used redsn0w to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod touch, you may have rebooted the device to find that the Cydia icon is white (meaning no sources), or that Cydia won’t launch.

Fix #1) Perform a Tethered Boot
If you have used redsn0w to jailbreak and you find a white Cydia icon this tethered boot is the first fix to try. You do this by relaunching redsn0w while your iOS device is connected to the computer and then selecting that you just want to tethered boot for now. You can download redsn0w 0.9.6b5 for Mac or Windows if you need it to perform the tethered boot.

Fix #2) Re-download Cydia or Update Cydia Sources
If the Cydia icon still appears white or you did not use redsn0w, Cydia may not have any sources added to the app. You can either re-download or update Cydia, or add sources directly to the app. The Cydia source to add is: http://apt.saurik.com/cydia

Where do exactly I can add the source? Since the Cydia cannot be openend. Is it from the /var? Thanks.

When you do a tethered reboot cydia should be normal. When i did it, Cydia was still white, I could go in to cydia and install the source.

so now i am going to try this on my phone

    Ok, check this out….

had a friend, dropped phone from 2 stories and asked that I fix it. it is..

iphone 3gs and redsn0w says its a new bootrom

so I jailbreak it (first tried old bootrom of course)
    then it loaded (os 4.2.1)

    cydia icon white..

decide to try easy route, limera1n

ran limera1n and it said it was done and it was unteathered thanks to comex.. (i thought this was just a generic splash page so i ignored it)

phone rebooted after limera1n and cydia still white. I find this place and it says simple fix for cydia, just boot teathered. ok, so i do with redsnow again.

it boots, i update cydia cydia reboots device, and guess what, not teathered anymore.

lul pollock are you retarded that’s what a tethered jb means . you gotta wait for an untethered version to come out

  15. Pollock says:

this is one of the reasons I don’t like tethered jb’s, other than the inconvenience of the boot but things like safari and cydia don’t work until the tether has been complete.
