Public beta of iOS 13 and iPadOS 13

Apple has released the seventh beta versions of iOS 13 beta and iPadOS 13 beta for users enrolled in the developers beta system software testing programs.

Usually a developer beta build is released first and is then followed by a public beta build of the same release but versioned a number behind. In this case, that should be iOS 13 public beta 6 and iPadOS 13 public beta 6.

Those who are enrolled in the iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 beta testing programs can download iOS 13 beta 7 and iPadOS 13 beta 7 from the Settings app > General > Software Update.

As usual iOS 13 beta 7 is available for iPhone and iPod touch, whereas iPadOS 13 beta 7 is available for iPad. iPadOS is iOS rebranded for iPad with some iPad specific features, like enhanced multitasking capabilities and support.

Separately, new beta updates to watchOS 6 and tvOS 13 are also available for developers enrolled in those beta programs.

Developer betas are intended for software and hardware developers, however the public beta builds are available for anyone to enroll to participate in. If you’re an advanced user who understands the limitations related to running beta system software and this sounds appealing to you, you can read how to install iOS 13 public beta on iPhone or iPod touch here and how to install iPadOS 13 public beta on iPad here. Additionally if you have Mac you can read how to install MacOS Catalina public beta on Mac here, and Apple TV users can read about how to install tvOS 13 public beta on Apple TV. Beta system software generally is less stable and has more bugs than final system software versions and is therefore only recommended to advanced users, preferably on secondary devices and not their primary hardware.

iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 include a variety of new and interesting features for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, with an optional dark interface theme, updates to Photos app, Notes app. and Reminders app, a new “Find My” app to help geolocate people and your Apple devices, SMB file sharing support in the Files app, external storage device support in Files app, some new multitasking features for iPad, the ability to pin widgets to the Home screen of iPad, some new Emoji along with Animoji and Memoji features, and many other refinements and details.

Apple has stated that iOS 13, iPadOS 13, watchOS 6, tvOS 13, and MacOS Catalina will be released to the public this fall.
