How to Change How Long You Need to Squeeze & Press AirPods Pro

AirPods Pro

Squeezing the AirPods Pro are how you can interact with the earbuds in different ways, but have you ever thought to change the squeeze duration to be longer or shorter to activate the feature you intend to use? You can change all kinds of things about how they work, like how long you need to squeeze an earbud to change active noise cancelling (ANC) mode. This article will show you how to do that.

Like so many of Apple’s best and well-hidden features, this one resides in the “Accessibility” area of the Settings app.

You’ll obviously need AirPods Pro setup with iPhone or iPad to be able to access this feature, remember that regular AirPods do not have the exact same capability.

How to Change Squeeze Duration on AirPods Pro

As we just mentioned, you need to be in the Settings app on either an iPhone or iPad with your AirPods paired and in-use at the time. Assuming that’s all covered off, let’s press on:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on the paired iPhone or iPad if you have not done so already
  2. Tap on “Accessibility.”
  3. Scroll down and tap “AirPods.”
  4. Tap to select whether you want the squeeze duration to be “Default,” “Short,” or “Shorter.”

Exit the Settings app and go about your business. You’re all set.

How to Change Press Speed on AirPods Pro

While you’re in the Settings app you can change how slowly or quickly AirPods Pro recognize multiple presses, too. If you want to be able to press more slowly but still have AirPods Pro recognize that you’re tapping multiple times in one action, this is the setting for you.

Again, in the Settings app:

  1. Tap on “Accessibility.”
  2. Scroll down and tap “AirPods.”
  3. Tap “Default,” “Slow,” or “Slowest” depending on the option you want to use.

Again, exit the Settings app and you’re ready to get back to listening to great music. Noise cancellation and all.

If you haven’t already, now would be a great time to run the “Ear Tip Fit Test” and make sure your AirPods Pro are sitting in your ears properly. After spending all that money you want to make sure you’re getting the most out of these things, right?

Apple’s AirPods Pro are set to be the breakout hit of the earbud market despite their higher price point than standard AirPods. And that’s absolutely fine because they’re pretty awesome, so while some users needs may be perfectly met by the base AirPods, others may prefer the newer AirPods Pro.

We’d love to know how you’re finding AirPods Pro down in the comments. Sound off!

I have had every Apple Air Pod made and these are by far the best yet. I use every feature but did not realize I could change the length of time
to press for change. I have even tried out the hearing aid features. Best Ever.
