The most useful Apple Support Document ever to exist

how to pick up imac

I have agonized for years over this one and surely you have too. If you’ve ever had that burning question of “how on earth do I pick up and carry my iMac G5” then you’re in luck.

In what is undoubtedly the single most useful support document to ever exist in the entire universe, Apple answers this amazingly complex technical question with the following ground breaking advice (brace yourself):

Pick up the iMac G5 by grasping both sides of the computer. Carry it to wherever you wish.

Grasp… both sides of the computer… and… carry it… to… whereever I wish????? Holy Moly. This changes everything! I never knew this was possible, imagine the possibilities.

OK enough sarcasm.

This hilarious support document is completely real and you have to wonder what inspired the creation of the article to begin with, that must have been one fun AppleCare support call. You can check it out on Apple’s support site here. Thanks to Carlos for sending this in, what a riot.

Unfortunately, this particular model required this explanation. The back of the iMac was removable, and held in place by two plastic tabs at the top, and three screws at the bottom. The plastic tabs were known to break if someone picked it up and carried it by the base/stand. Later model iMacs (post early 2006) did not have the removable back and could easily be carried by the base/stand. Also, the back would not always snap back in place properly, and again, weakened the plastic tabs or in some cases, didn’t catch them at all, so a gap would be visible across the rear top edge, just waiting for someone to grab it by the foot and topple into the floor.

Probably to prevent any law suits due to people dropping their G5.

“Oh I dropped and broke it Apple should have told me what to do!” -sues Apple-

Unfortunately doesn’t state the owner should bend the legs and keep the back straight while doing so!
