Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 3 Software Update

Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 3 is now available for developers to download. The release is labeled as another update to Developer Preview 2, but MacStories notes that Apple’s Mac Developer Center indicates the release is in fact Lion Developer Preview 3.

The update is available through Software Update and weighs in between 1GB and 1.2GB depending on the Mac you are installing it on. As usual with Lion Dev Preview updates, the installation notes are brief, nothing simply that it is recommended for all users of Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2.

Along with the Dev Preview 3 comes the release of XCode 4.1 Dev Preview 5, which is necessary to install after updating Lion if you plan on using the XCode development suite.

Lion is due for a release this summer, with WWDC 2011 looking like a prime date for announcement. Check out our Mac OS X 10.7 Lion archives for more.

Developer Preview 4 will still not work on my Core i7 2.GHZ CTO 15″ 2011 Macbook Pro, only way around it i’ve found so far is to place the drive in to a core 2 duo macbook pro as I have no and then continue the installation as the installer if started on a 2011 mbp will render your data in accessible! as the machine will only boot in to the installer!

I’ve got the original OS X 10.7 Lion Developer Preview (Build 11A390).

I realise newer versions that have been released since… but Software Update says my ‘software is up-to-date’.

Not sure why I cannot get Preview 3. Confused!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    James

Developer Preview 4 is actually out to download now, but outside of the Mac Dev Center it is not showing up in Software Update yet. I think this is just Apple’s servers being overloaded.

      • James Stevenson says:

If Software Update didn’t prompt me to download Preview 2 or Preview 3, I guess it probably won’t offer me Preview 4 either.

        I just don’t know why…?

  4. Jesse Sullivan says:

I am using it now, but the problem I keep getting is my CPU will spike every 2 seconds (2011 MBP with core i3)

The pkg In the link is from Dp2 to Dp3 update ?

  9. Maximas says:

DP3 won’t boot on my setup. I locks at booting and the progresswheel stops spinning.
Removing the IO80211Family.kext file (extentions folder) seem to help. But you do not have a working WiFi.

    I have a early 2011 MBP 17.

  10. […] Lion Developer Preview 3 brings some nice new UI changes to the lock and login screens. Now when you lock your Mac screen in Lion with Control+Shift+Eject, you’ll see a small login window over the current background wallpaper like the screenshot up top. What you can’t make out in the screenshot is a small HUD in the upper right corner showing the current time, battery life, and wireless signal strength. […]

Apple is investigating the boot issues that most MBS Pro 2011 have with DP2update2 and DP3. It seems the i7 CPU is not working with the new DP3 core. There is even a word Apple will have to replace all new MBS Pro’s :-/

    • xf says:

I saw people complaining about DP3 not booting after installation but it worked fine for me… I’ll check the dev forums… interesting…
