iOS 8 Beta 2 Available for Developers to Download
Apple has released iOS 8 beta 2 to developers, bringing bug fixes and feature improvements to the developer build of iPhone and iPad software. The second beta build arrives versioned as 12A4297e and is made available through the iOS Developer Center at Apple’s website, or as a quick Over-The-Air update for devices that are currently running the first iOS 8 beta.
Use OTA to Download iOS 8 Beta 2 Quickly
The simplest and fastest way for current users to download iOS 8 beta 2 is to use OTA update from a device that is already running beta 1. This is done by going to Settings > General > Software Update, where ‘iOS 8 beta 2″ will be found as a download. iOS 8 beta 2 OTA downloads range in size from 300MB to 500MB, depending on the device being installed upon.
Alternatively, Get iOS 8 beta 2 IPSW from the Dev Center
Those registered with the iOS Developer Program who are not currently running iOS 8 beta 1 can log into the iOS Dev Center website and find the appropriate firmware files to download for compatible devices. In brief, iOS 8 beta runs on all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch hardware that is supported by iOS 7, with the exception of the iPhone 4.
iOS 8 is currently a developer only release, meaning features are incomplete and the experience is rather buggy compared to standard user expectations, leaving the developer build best installed on devices intended for development purposes only, and not primary usage iPhone or iPads. Users who find the experience too unreliable can downgrade from iOS 8 back to a stable iOS 7 build at any time through a fairly simple process.
The final version of iOS 8 will include many new features and enhancements to the mobile operating system, and is currently scheduled to be released to the public this fall, possibly alongside the release of iPhone 6, iWatch, OS X Yosemite, and other updates to Apple hardware, making the end of the year a busy time for Apple and Apple fans alike.
Separate from iOS 8 beta 2, Apple has also released OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 2, which is available for Mac developers running the first OS X 10.10 beta as an update from the Mac App Store.
