iPhone 6 Launch Date: September 9

iPhone 6 release date

Apple will launch the iPhone 6 at an event scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, according to the consistently reliable and well sourced Re/Code (formerly WSJ’s All Things Digital), Bloomberg, and The Wall Street Journal.

Specifically, Recode says the event will focus on “Apple’s next-generation iPhones, which are expected to feature larger displays of 4.7 and 5.5 inches and run speedy new A8 processors.” The Wall Street Journal also confirmed the mid September launch date, suggesting that both iPhone screen sizes will debut at the Apple event.

Bloomberg also chimed in to support the launch date, and specifically mentioned that both size iPhone models will be unveiled by Apple: “The Cupertino, California-based company is set to introduce two new models: one with a 4.7-inch screen, and another with a 5.5-inch screen, people with knowledge of the plans have said.”

Assuming the release pattern follows prior iPhone launches, the initial iPhone product unveiling is usually about two weeks before the iPhone becomes available for purchase. This suggests the iPhone 6 release date could be Friday, September 19, but that is simply speculation. It’s likely that iOS 8 will also have a public release on or near the date of the iPhone 6 release, suggesting a mid-September timeframe for the new mobile operating system as well. This is roughly in line with the long rumored “fall” release of the next iPhone and iOS 8, which officially begins on September 22 of 2014.

The next iPhone, currently assumed to be named iPhone 6, is said to feature two models with larger displays, one with a 4.7″ screen, and the other with a 5.5″ screen. The new phone is also expected to be faster, feature notable improvements to the camera, and be thinner and lighter. The devices appearance may look something like these mockups.

Apple is expecting huge numbers of iPhone 6 sales, according to a recent Wall Street Journal report.

Updated: The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg have now also confirmed the September 9 launch date for iPhone 6. WSJ also mentions that a launch is typically followed by phone sales and widespread availability for purchasing “a few weeks later.”

Apple needs to go smaller, not bigger. I want an iPhone that completely fits in the small pocket above the right pocket in my jeans. That way, it won’t distort the snug fit of my tight pants and ruin the look of my tush for the ladies viewing pleasure.

I’m thinking 2″ X 1 1/2″ would be perfect. When I want to actually see stuff on a screen, I use my TV or computer.

Will the bigger iPhone with the larger screen have a higher resolution or will it just have bigger screen objects. I have a hard time reading my current screen so larger is better. I don’t need more real estate.

Let’s hope that they are not just longer/taller.

OMG finally, can’t wait for a much bigger screen. I think I want the 5.5″ iPhone 6 if it fits into a pocket, I bet it will have better battery life than the smaller version too.
