Apple Back To School Promo for 2015: Free Beats Solo2 Headphones with Purchase of a Mac

Beats headphones with a MacBook Pro

Apple has started their annual Back To School promotional deal for students and educators looking to purchase a Mac. This year, eligible buyers are able to get a free pair of Beats Solo2 On-Ear Headphones, valued at $199, with the order of a qualifying Mac.

Permitted Macs include the MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac Pro, each of which comes with a small educational discount on the hardware, and the free pair of headphones can be the Beats Solo2 in Gloss Black, Gloss White, Gloss Red, Gloss Blue, Gloss Gray, or Gloss Pink colors.

The promotion is valid now in Apple US Retail Stores and participating Apple Campus Stores (typically the bookstore at the college or university) and runs through September 18.

The online portion of the deal from the online Apple Education Store doesn’t start until August 6th, however. Thus, if you’re looking to jump on the deal now, you’d need to either make the purchase at a local campus store or Apple Store, though it’s possible that an Apple sales rep could complete the eligible purchase online or through a phone call, but your mileage may vary.

Currently, the only mention of the promo on Apple’s website at the moment is here, stating the following:

Receive a pair of Beats Solo2 On-Ear Headphones at no cost — or upgrade to a pair of Beats Solo2 Wireless Headphones for $100 — when you buy an eligible Mac with education pricing. Offer starts on July 23, 2015, in Apple Retail Stores and participating Apple Authorized Campus Stores, and on August 6, 2015, on the Apple Online Store and at 1-800-MY-APPLE. Offer ends on September 18, 2015. Terms and conditions apply.

Typically Apple has notable placements in stores and on their website once the deal is active in the respective locations, but for now it’s a fairly subtle promotion.

I’m sure this is a very attractive option seen from the stockholder’s perspective: that headphone’s manufacturing cost are quite low.

However, the message to me is: we only care about image. Precisely the thing Apple has always been criticized about.

rather they give me a woman or a new mac pro if i purchase a mac for student promo.

I thought you went to school to learn, not listen to music on headphone.

    • Gurko Balonga says:

Good point Mark, nobody should listen to music ever, especially students. The only thing students should listen to, on repeat, with headphones, is your commentary. That will teach the children well.

    jajajajaaaaaaaaaaaaa mucha suerte …..

  5. Bummed Walrus says:

I wish they still gave away the free iPod Touch, that was a much better deal.

  6. Anthony Lenzo says:

I rather get 50% off a computer then get a crappy headphone for going back to school

    • ohei says:

The student discount on Macs is usually about 10%, a 50% discount on a Mac would be fantastic. Pretty sure Apple employees only get a once a year 25% discount at best, so unlikely a 50% would happen.
