iOS 12 Developer Beta 10 & Public Beta 8 Released to Download
Apple has released iOS 12 Developer beta 10 along with iOS 12 Public beta 8 to users enrolled in either beta testing program for the iPhone and iPad.
As is often the case with Apple system software betas, the labeled release versions are different between the developer and public beta builds, but the build numbers are the same (16A5364a), indicating they are the same version of system software.
iOS 12 developer beta 10 arrives just a few short days after beta 9. The elevated pace of beta releases could indicate the final version of iOS 12 could be nearing completion, as the stated fall release date nears, or it could simply demonstrate that an important bug was found in the prior beta builds and was quickly patched.
Users enrolled in either the developer or public iOS beta testing program can find the latest version available to download now from the Settings app Software Update mechanism.
The update is fairly small and should install quickly.
Anyone can choose to enroll in the beta testing program and then install the iOS 12 public beta on a iOS 12 compatible iPhone or iPad. Generally speaking, beta system software is less reliable than final versions, and thus running beta builds is only recommended for more advanced users who are tolerant to a buggier and less stable operating system experience.
iOS 12 is said to focus mostly on performance improvements to the iPhone and iPad operating system, but a variety of new features are also coming along for the ride, including all new Memoji avatar creation, new Animoji icons, updates to Notifications and how they are grouped and managed, a new ScreenTime feature which allows you to keep track of and set time limits on app usage, updates to the Stocks and Maps apps, and more.
iOS 12 will likely debut to the public around the same time that macOS Mojave 10.14, watchOS 5, and tvOS 12 also are launched. Apple has said that macOS Mojave and iOS 12 will launch in the fall of this year. The company often holds an fall iPhone release event, which is largely rumored to fall on or around September 12 of this year, which could suggest a similar release timeline for the public release of the updated system software.
