MacOS Catalina 10.15 Beta 6 Download Available
Apple has released MacOS Catalina 10.15 beta 6 to those who are enrolled in the developer beta testing program for macOS system software.
Typically a developer beta arrives first, soon followed by the same build as a public beta release yet versioned a number behind. Therefore, MacOS Catalina beta 6 would be MacOS Catalina public beta 5. Dev beta 6 carries the build 19A536g.
Mac users who are actively running a MacOS Catalina developer beta can find beta 6 available to download from the Software Update section of the System Preferences panel.
MacOS Catalina includes a handful of new features for Mac, including the ability to use iPad as a secondary display for a Mac, the splitting of iTunes into three separate apps for Music, TV, and Podcasts, updates to apps like Photos, Notes and Reminders, iOS device management via the Finder, a new screen saver, tightened security for the user and how apps can interact with the operating system, the removal of support for 32-bit apps, and more.
Developer beta software is aimed at developers, but if you’re a Mac user who is interested in beta testing MacOS Catalina you can do so for free from the public beta testing program. If that interests you, you can learn how to install MacOS Catalina public beta here if that interests you. Be aware that beta versions of system software are notoriously buggy and prone to issues not experienced in final stable builds, and therefore beta testing is only appropriate for advanced users. Preferably on secondary hardware, with full backups, or perhaps running Catalina in a dual boot environment on an APFS volume alongside Mojave.
Similarly, it’s also possible for anyone to beta test iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 as well, you can read how to install iPadOS 13 public beta and read how to install iOS 13 public beta on iPhone if that interests you.
Version-wise, MacOS Catalina is a version number behind the beta releases of iOS 13, iPadOS 13, tvOS 13, and watchOS 6, each of which are on beta 7.
Apple has said the final version of MacOS Catalina will be available in the fall of 2019.
