iOS 15 beta and iPadOS 15 beta

Apple has released iOS 15 beta 3 and iPadOS 15 beta 3 to users enrolled in the beta testing programs for the upcoming iPhone and iPad system software versions.

Typically the developer beta build will roll out first and is soon followed by a public beta release of the same build. iOS 15 beta 3 carries build number 19A5297e.

iOS 15 beta and iPadOS 15 beta feature redesigned Safari interface and a new tab grouping capability, new features for FaceTime including Screen Sharing and grid view, Live Text which allows you to select text within images, redesigned Notifications, Safari Extensions, changes and improvements to many bundled apps including Photos, Maps, Messages, Health, and Spotlight, and much more. iPadOS 15 also has gained the ability to place widgets anywhere on the Home Screen, and there are changes and refinements to how multitasking works in iPadOS, again.

Though beta versions are recommended only to advanced users, technically anyone can install the public beta of iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 (or dev beta builds if they have access to the dev profile) onto their device. The main requirement is having an iOS 15 compatible iPhone or iPadOS 15 compatible iPad, and tolerance for a buggier operating system than you’re accustomed to, where apps may not work as expected if at all.

How to Download & Install iOS 15 Beta 3 / iPadOS 15 Beta 3

Assuming you’re already enrolled in the beta program, downloading the latest update is quite simple. As always, backup your device before installing any software update, particularly beta releases.

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General” and then to “Software Update”
  3. Choose to Download and Install when iOS 15 beta 3 / iPadOS 15 beta 3 shows as available
  4. iOS 15 beta 3 and iPadOS 15 beta 3

The device will reboot to complete installation. Installation may take a while, so be patient.

Separately, Apple released MacOS Monterey 12 beta 3, along with new betas of tvOS 15 and watchOS 8, to users who are enrolled in the beta testing programs for those operating system versions as well.

The final versions of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are set to debut in the fall, alongside the final release of MacOS Monterey, watchOS 8, and tvOS 15.
