Play WORDLE, a Fun Daily Word Game

Play WORDLE the word game

WORDLE is an increasing popular word game that is spreading around everywhere, and if you spend much time on social media you may have already seen a screenshot of someones score or streak.

The gist of WORDLE is fairly simple; players are tasked with guessing a five letter word, and the game gives clues by indicating which letters are either in the word (yellow), or in the right place (green). Letters not in the word appear as dark gray. You only get six guesses per day, and the WORDLE puzzle regenerates a new puzzle every day for everyone.

If you want to try out WORDLE yourself, the game is on the web, thus it is available for anyone with any web browser, regardless of what device you are using, be it iPhone, Android, iPad, Mac, Windows, Linux, Chromebook, or anything else.

You’ll probably want to bookmark that site if you intend to play it every day when a new puzzle shows up.

(Sidenote: if you are using a content blocker, disable it for the site because it does not work properly with one enabled)

WORDLE is fun, innovative, and gives your vocabulary a bit of a workout, and because everyone only gets one puzzle a day, you can’t really overplay it or get too addicted to it.

WORDLE word game playing on the web

WORDLE is not on any App Store (yet anyway), but there are tons of fakes, scams, and clones popping up, many of which charge outrageous sums for something that is free – gotta love ripoffs right? But WORDLE is free, and on the web, so don’t get suckered into the trash. Play the official version, on the web, for free, no matter what device you’re on.

Perhaps an official version will come to the App Store sometime in the future, but for now just fire up a web browser on any device at all and enjoy the word game cultural phenomena – it’s not quite Flappy Bird level yet, but maybe it’ll get there.

So it’s a Surveillance Capitalism trojan horse, like the myriad of Facebook games (and indeed the entire Facebook platform)?

    I knew there was a reason I haven’t bothered…

Unlikely, it’s created by a single developer and it is not monetized, though it is being massively ripped off and those versions may have tracking.

From the privacy report, it shows only google analytics, which basically every website uses.

Thanks for your response. One would have hoped I would have learned my lesson by now about not commenting on things about which I have no knowledge!

There’s a relevant Twitter thread here — https://twitter.com/dz/status/1481510084974895106 — for anyone diving through the OSX Daily archives and finding this article and comments. It’s certainly more informed than my uninformed speculation.
