iOS 15 and iPadOS 15

Apple has released iOS 15.7 and iPadOS 15.7 for iPhone and iPad users.

The update is available to iPhone users as an alternative to the freshly released iOS 16 update for iPhone, and offers security fixes for iPad users given that iPadOS 16 is not available until next month.

Most iPhone users should simply install iOS 16 since it offers new features, whereas iOS 15.7 simply offers security patches and no changes or features.

How to Download & Update to iOS 15.7 & iPadOS 15.7

Don’t forget to backup the iPhone or iPad to iCloud or a computer through Finder or iTunes before installing any system software update.

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”
  3. Go to “Software Update”
  4. Choose to “Download and Install” for iOS 15.7 or iPadOS 15.7

The iOS 15.7 and iPadOS 15.7 update weighs around 300mb and is pretty quick to download, though installing it requires the device to restart as usual.

iPhone and iPad users can also install the updates through a computer by using Finder on a Mac, or iTunes on a Windows PC. Optionally, advanced users can install the updates through IPSW firmware files, which also requires a computer.

Hey Paul, many thanks for the IPSW files.

I am just curious, where did you get the IPSW links from? Any way I can retrieve those links from my home mac? I think there’s a terminal command but I’m not sure it works for iOS 15.7

    Thank you

Thanks for these brief articles… I appreciate the option to get latest security without having to jump to next release immediately… I prefer to wait at least until IOS has a couple of updates (3-6 weeks) before jumping on it… I also prefer to update my iPad with new IOS before iPhone, as Apple doesn’t provide a way to revert to previous version … Now that iPad OS is coming later, I will wait longer for the iPhone update on my devices.

The only real feature of iOS 16 is the new lock screen, and it’s nice to be able to see the weather without unlocking the iPhone first.

When Ventura comes out it will be nice to be able to use the iPhone as a camera too, but that’s not until October.

Otherwise it’s a very boring update, as usual.
