new beta versions of system software

The second beta versions of iOS 16.5 for iPhone, iPadOS 16.5 for iPad, and macOS Ventura 13.4 for Mac are available to users enrolled in the beta testing programs for Apple system software.

Presumably iOS 16.5, iPadOS 16.5, or MacOS Ventura 13.4 will focus on bug fixes and security enhancements, as no major new features are expected in the releases.

Anyone who is actively enrolled in the beta system software testing programs for Apple devices can find the latest updates available to download now through the respective Settings apps on those devices.

For MacOS beta testers, go to  Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update.

For iOS and iPadOS beta testers, go to Settings app > General > Software Update.

There are also betas available for watchOS and tvOS, but typically those are only used by app developers for those particular devices, whereas there are many more developers, casual users, system administrators, advanced users, web developers, and the curious involved in the iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS beta programs.

Several betas are typically released and run through before a final version becomes available to the general public. Accordingly, it’s a decent guess that the final versions of iOS 16.5, iPadOS 16.5, and MacOS Ventura 13.4 will be released in the month of May, though the finalized updates could arrive sooner, or later.

The latest stable builds of Apple system software are currently macOS Ventura 13.3.1, MacOS Monterey 12.6.5, MacOS Big Sur 11.7.6, iOS 15.7.5 and iPadOS 15.7.5 for older iPhone and iPad models, and iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1 for newer iPhone and iPad devices.
