How to AirPlay from Chrome or Edge or Brave browser to Sonos or HomePod speakers from a Mac

There are many websites that have audio that you may wish to stream from a web browser to a Sonos or Homepod, or any other AirPlay compatible speaker system. For example, maybe you’re on a website for a podcast or music that you want to stream to another speaker in the room or house.

This is pretty easy, but if you’re looking for a way to AirPlay music directly from the Chrome, Edge, Brave, or any Chromium-based web browser, you might not know how it works from a glance. Not to worry, we’re going to show you how easy it is to AirPlay an audio stream from a Chrome-based web browser running on Mac to an AirPlay speaker, like a Sonos or HomePod.

In the example here, we’ll be streaming from the Poolsuite FM Soundcloud page (the same Poolsuite that has the fun super-retro music app for Mac and iPhone) in the Chrome, Edge, Brave, or any Chromium web browser on a Mac, to an AirPlay compatible speaker, whether that’s Sonos or HomePod, or even both at the same time.

How to AirPlay from Chrome/Edge on Mac to Sonos or HomePod

  1. Navigate to whatever webpage has music you want to AirPlay to Sonos or HomePod (in this example, we’re using https://soundcloud.com/poolsuite)
  2. Start playing the music, podcast, or audio stream that you wish to stream to the AirPlay speaker

  4. Now pull down Control Center on the Mac from the menu bar, and click on the sound toggle to access AirPlay speakers
  5. Click on the Sound output in Control Center

  6. Select the AirPlay speaker, Sonos, or HomePod, that you want to stream the audio to

  8. In a moment the audio stream will start playing from the browser to the AirPlay speaker

If you have both a Sonos and a HomePod, you can stream to both simultaneously by selecting both of them. And the same trick works with multiple HomePods, or multiple AirPlay speakers of any type.

Having AirPlay compatible speakers around is super useful not only for streaming music and podcasts to, but also because you can use a Sonos as a speaker for the Mac, and you can do this with stereo paired HomePods too.

AirPlay is a really powerful and great technology for wirelessly streaming, if you’re interested then checkout more AirPlay tips here.
