iPadOS 27 Compatible iPad Models: Will Your iPad Run iPadOS 27?
iPadOS 27 is an interesting new update for iPad with a host of performance improvements, tweaks to Liquid Glass including a slider for the intensity of the UI look, and a range of various features and significant AI improvements, including the all new Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features.
But unlike iOS 27, which is compatible with all iPhone models that could run iOS 26, you will find that iPadOS 27 is a bit more strict, and multiple iPad models do not make the cut for iPadOS 27 despite supporting iPadOS 26.

iPadOS 27 Compatible iPad Models & Supported iPad List
iPadOS 27 is compatible with the following iPad models:
- iPad Pro 11″ 2nd gen and newer
- iPad Pro 12.9″ 4th gen and newer
- iPad Air 4th generation and newer
- iPad 9th generation and newer
- iPad Mini 6th gen and newer

You will notice that some iPad models are no longer supported by iPadOS 27, despite being supported by iPadOS 26. This includes the 1st gen iPad Pro 11″, iPad Pro 12.9″ 3rd gen, iPad Air 3rd gen, iPad Mini 5th gen. This is undoubtedly disappointing to those iPad users, since the iPadOS 27 update is set to mostly be improvements to iPadOS 26, so you’d think that support would include all of the same devices. Nonetheless, that is not the case. There were initially some suggestions that the first gen iPad Pro 11″ and 3rd gen iPad Pro 12.9″ would receive support for ipadOS 27, but those devices are not listed on the official supported iPad list from Apple.
You will also need at least 30GB of free storage available to be able to successfully download and install the iPadOS 27 update onto your device.
Siri AI & Apple Intelligence Support in iPadOS 27
Only M4 or better iPad models will support the full Siri AI and new Apple Intelligence feature set, including the customizable Siri voice, and on-device AI models.
All other M-series iPad models will support standard Apple Intelligence and Siri features, however.
And of course, all iPad models can always use complex AI features using third party AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Gemini, Deepseek, and others.
What about iPhone and iOS 27?

When does iPadOS 27 come out anyway? Is there a release date yet?
Apple has said that iPadOS 27 will debut this fall, but no precise release date is known yet for the public.
If you’re adventurous and an advanced user, you can install the iPadOS 27 beta right now onto your compatible iPad, or you can install the public beta too when that becomes available. Otherwise, just wait until the fall, and iPadOS 27 will be out for all eligible and supported iPads then.
