Mac OS X 10.7 Lion GM coming soon?
It wasn’t long ago that Mac OS X 10.7 Developer Preview was released, but now TechCrunch is reporting that Apple may be releasing a GM candidate of Mac OS X Lion in the near future. The details are somewhat sketchy, citing just what they’re “hearing” from an unspecified source:
…Apple is gearing up to deploy an OS X Lion update to developers that they may be classifying as the “GM1″ release, we’re hearing… But from what we’ve heard, this is only the initial Golden Master candidate. In other words, don’t get too excited just yet
If this sounds a little strange, it is, because GM (Golden Master) software builds are typically what is used for mass production, indicating a finished product. TechCrunch’s Seigler even notes this, saying the “title [is] reserved for software that is complete,” so it would be a bit unusual for Apple to start labeling GM builds in the fashion of beta releases. Outside of last minute bug fixes, versioning stable builds is typically something reserved for RC (Release Candidates) builds. That said, the Lion Preview is quite stable and I dual boot between 10.7 and 10.6 regularly, so it’s certainly possible that Lion development is coming along ahead of schedule.
Apple has already announced that Mac OS X Lion will be released in summer of 2011. Most guesses are that the Mac OS X Lion launch will be the same date as iPhone 5 may be released, which event calendars pin on June 5 at WWDC 2011.

I’ve got a question for anyone with the developer build of Lion.
Has Apple restored the ability to connect to a specific BSSID through the terminal? This was possible in 10.5 but deprecated to SSID-only in 10.6.
If someone has Lion installed, could you run the airport terminal command and copy what it says back here? Another place to look is “networksetup”.
Being able to connect to a specific BSSID is critical to me, and is the only reason I’m still dual booting linux.
I’ve been wanting to check this myself but I live on a college campus with spotty wifi that keeps dropping my direct download of Lion, and their firewall blocks torrents.
I believe it, I’ve been using Lion since it came out and it’s very stable, the only bugs are minor UI oddities. The whole point of the Developer Preview was to test it out in limited public hands and it has probably gotten out most of the kinks.
GM already? Right after a developer beta? LOL, fat chance.
Given your site has advocated theft of cellular bandwidth in your recent postings, I’m surprised you’re not advertising hosting of a torrent of Lion now or when Lion is released. It’s right up your alley, right?
Why bother with a torrent? If you want Lion all you need to do is join the developer program and it’s free to download.

It has nothing to do with theft, it’s an unofficial tethering method that was popular before iOS 4.3 brought tethering to the iPhone.
Authors are entitled to their opinions on things just as you and everyone else are, but nobody here advocates for theft, piracy, or anything illegal.
