A serious privacy bug has been discovered in FaceTime for iOS and MacOS that allows remote eavesdropping on another persons iPhone or Mac, even if they don’t pick up and answer the FaceTime call. Essentially this means that anyone can remotely listen to the microphone of a targeted iPhone or Mac by a remarkably simple process.

Some iPhone users have discovered cellular data issues after installing the iOS 12.1.3 update, showing “No service”, no cellular data, no cellular reception bars, and sometimes seeing a “Cellular Update Failed” message similar to what was happening with some iPhones after installing iOS 12.1.2. This seems to mostly impact iPhones on particular cellular networks, but it’s not entirely clear why some iPhone devices will experience cellular data problems after installing the iOS 12.1.3 update while others don’t.

Often some of the routine fixes for cellular data not working on iPhone will resolve this problem, including making sure that cellular data is actually enabled and resetting network settings.

If you have previously installed VirtualBox on the Mac but no longer need the application, you may be interested in uninstalling VirtualBox completely. Apple has released iOS 12.2 beta 1 and macOS Mojave 10.14.4 beta 1, along with tvOS 12.2 beta 1 and watchOS 5.2 beta 2.

These new beta builds arrive a day after the the final versions of MacOS Mojave 10.14.3 and iOS 12.1.3 were released for the Mac, and iPhone and iPad, respectively, along with other final updates to watchOS and tvOS.

Modern versions of Safari for Mac include favicon (favorite icon) support, offering a visual indicator of webpages in the titlebar and tab bar of the Safari browser. Nearly every other web browser on the Mac (and other operating systems) has had favicon support for quite some time, but this is a relatively new addition to Safari and to show the website icons in Safari for Mac you must first enable favicon support in preferences as the feature is not enabled by default.

Apple has released MacOS Mojave 10.14.3 for Mac users running the latest operating system. The new release includes bug fixes and security enhancements and is therefore recommended to MacOS Mojave users.

Mac users running prior MacOS releases of High Sierra and Sierra will find security updates available in the Mac App Store as well, labeled as Security Update 2019-001 10.13.6 and Security Update 2019-001 10.12.6 respectively, along with an update to Safari.

Some 2018 MacBook Air (and possibly 2018 MacBook Pro) computers may exhibit seemingly random screen flickering, where the entire display backlight blinks and flickers. This can be alarming, since often screen flickering indicates a hardware issue.

But in this case, the MacBook Air screen flickering may actually be software related, and after some investigation it appears the issue relates some specific settings on these new Macs.
