The Dock in modern MacOS versions includes a new feature that displays a trio of recently used applications alongside your regular Dock app icons. The Recent Applications section of the Dock adjusts and updates automatically as you launch and quit apps, and while it offers a convenient way to reopen apps you were using not long ago, some users may prefer to not have the feature enabled for whatever reason.

Enabling Dark Mode in macOS Mojave tranforms the entire user interface appearance into an all-dark look, and while it’s very popular with many users, some other Mac users may not want a full dark mode appearance on their Mac. Instead, some Mac users may prefer a more limited Dark theme experience that only applies to the menu bar and Dock. Coincidentally, and as you may recall, earlier versions of MacOS system software had a dark menu and dark Dock feature that could be enabled, which transitioned only the Menu Bar and Dock to a Dark theme while preserving the regular Light theme across all other user interface elements. This tutorial aims to restore that latter functionality to macOS Mojave, allowing you to keep the Light mode theme for all user interface elements except the Menu bar and Dock, which will be placed into Dark Mode theme exclusively.

If you have updated to iOS 13 or iOS 12, you may be wondering where did the little Details “(i)” information button go in Messages for iPhone or iPad? The “i” info button in a Message thread used to be always visible in the upper right corner of a message conversation thread on an iPhone or iPad, and when tapped on you get to a “Details” screen with more information about a message thread including details about the contact, a quick ability to call or FaceTime that contact, send and share location with them, hide alerts and adjust read receipt behavior, see attachments and images, and more. Like a variety of other changes in iOS 12, the conversation details and “i” info button has moved in Messages app for iOS 12.

Rarely, iPhone and iPad users may encounter a “Cannot Get Mail” error message in the Mail app of iOS, indicating that Mail for iOS is unable to retrieve new emails or some other issue with the mail account as configured. The full error message shows up as pop-up window and usually says something along the lines of “Cannot Get Mail – The connection to the server failed.” and is sometimes accompanied by a “Enter the password for the email account” message, along with a small “Account Error” statement at the very bottom of the Mail app of iOS. These errors are understandably annoying since it prevents email from working as expected.

The Messages app has changed the way users access all photos from within a message conversation. No longer can you simply tap on the camera button to access your photos library from Messages, in iOS 13 and iOS 12 you will instead access your photos from the app icon drawer within the Messages app on iPhone or iPad. If you’re a Mac command line user you may have noticed that many frequently used commands entered into the Terminal (or iTerm) result in an “Operation not permitted” error message since updating to MacOS Mojave 10.14 or later, including Sonoma, Ventura, Monterey, and Big Sur. The “Operation not permitted” error in the Terminal can be seen after issuing even simple commands like using ‘ls’ ‘mv’ and ‘cp’ within the users own directory, but also in many other directory locations on the Mac, and when trying to use many defaults commands. Obviously this type of error message makes navigating and using the command line in MacOS to be quite difficult if not impossible for many purposes. Don’t worry, the Terminal is not broken in new MacOS versions.
