MacOS Tahoe 26 beta 8 has been released by Apple, the new beta build arrives for users enrolled in the beta testing program first, and is typically soon followed by the same build being made available to public beta testers (update: public beta 5 is out).

Apple also issued iOS 26 beta 8 for iPhone and iPad, watchOS 26 beta 8, and tvOS 26 beta 8. Historically, the 8th beta build is often the final beta version for a major system software release from Apple, so it’s possible these 8th betas are what will be released to the general public in the near future. Apple has previously said that macOS Tahoe 26 will be released this fall, along with iOS 26, ipadOS 26, and the rest of the OS 26 suite.

The most significant change with MacOS Tahoe 26 is the new translucent and shiny Liquid Glass interface appearance complete with new icon customizations, new wallpaper options, new screen saver choices, and a boring new Macintosh HD icon design. There are also new features too, including a clipboard history feature included in Spotlight, Launchpad is removed directly but instead is available as an option with Spotlight too, and the Phone app and Journal app come to the Mac for the first time. There are also custom backgrounds and group chat polling in the Messages app similar to what WhatsApp offers, and Live Activities from iPhone arrive on the Mac too, amongst other smaller various changes and features. MacOS Tahoe is compatible with a variety of Macs and can be installed now by curious users as MacOS Tahoe 26 beta, though the beta experience is best reserved for more advanced Mac users.

Apple has issued important security updates for iPhone and iPad, versioned as iOS 18.6.2 and iPadOS 18.6.2. The security update addresses an actively exploited security hole pertaining to malicious image files, and given the huge number of people who share and receive funny pictures, memes, gifs, and other image files online, it’s a good idea to install this update as soon as you can onto your devices. With all that said, it’s unlikely that most people are impacted by this particular exploit, but nonetheless it’s still good security practice to install these type of updates right away when possible.

The same security patch is also available for older iPad users with iPadOS 17.7.10, along with Mac users versioned as MacOS Sequoia 15.6.1, MacOS Sonoma 14.7.8, and macOS Ventura 13.7.8.

No new features or other changes are included in the update, it is strictly security oriented.

Apple has issued macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 as a security update for Mac users running the Sequoia operating system. Apple says the update contains “important security fixes” and is therefore recommended for all users.

The particular exploit that has been patched pertains to malicious image files, and given that a huge number of people regularly encounter image files and share things like memes and funny pictures that are found online, it’s a good idea to install these updates as soon as you can on your Apple devices. While it’s unlikely that you have been impacted by this particular exploit, it’s still good practice to install these type of security updates onto your devices right away.

The same security patches are also available for other MacOS versions including MacOS Sonoma 14.7.8 and macOS Ventura 13.7.8, along with iPhone and iPad versioned as iOS 18.6.2 and iPadOS 18.6.2.

The beta development cycle of Apple operating systems is accelerating, as Apple has released iOS 26 beta 7 for iPhone, along with iPadOS 26 beta 7 for iPad. While those are developer beta versions, Apple simultaneously released the same builds as public beta versions, labeled as iOS 26 public beta 4.

MacOS Tahoe 26 has an all new updated interface appearance that Apple calls Liquid Glass, and with that comes a glassy watery default wallpaper pair in both light with blue hues and dark with more purple hue colors. Apple has released two updates as iOS 18.6.1 for iPhone along with watchOS 11.6.1 for Apple Watch, and the combination of the two system software updates returns the blood oxygen monitoring feature back to Apple Watch. Previously, Apple had to remove the blood oxygen monitoring feature from Apple Watch Series 9, 10, and the latest Ultra 2 models, because of an ongoing legal dispute with another tech company.

No other features or security patches are included in these releases, but if you’re an Apple Watch Series 9, 10, or Ultra 2 owner (or shopper, Apple Watch 10 is $100 off from Amazon) this is certainly a series of updates you’ll want to get so that you can get the blood oxygen feature back on your device.

ChatGPT is wildly popular for good reason as an incredibly useful artificial inteligence and LLM tool. But OpenAI recently introduced ChatGPT 5, and while generally every release of ChatGPT has been a significant improvement and well received, the same is not entirely to be said about the introduction of ChatGPT 5, which tends to regurgitate things found on reddit in a kind of unemotional corporate speak – hardly the ChatGPT experience most users enjoyed or are looking for. The GPT-5 experience is negative enough for some users that there is a fair amount of backlash online as many users miss the GPT-4o and GPT-4.5 experiences.

If it seems like they had just updated new betas not long ago you’d be right, as the sixth betas arrive just a week after the fifth, indicating an acceleration in beta development as the fall deadline for final release nears. As usual, the build typically arrives first for developers, and the same build is typically matched soon after by a public beta release.

iOS 26 features the new Liquid Glass interface appearance scheme which is continuing to be refined throughout the beta process, but overall is much shinier and more translucent than before, along with some new features and changes like the inclusion of custom background wallpapers in Messages app, polling in Messages group chats, Phone app improvements, Carplay improvements, improvements to Shortcuts and Apple Intelligence, new ringtone options, new wallpapers, and the iPad gains new windowed multitasking capabilities along with the Preview app and more.

Anyone can install the iOS 26 beta or iPadOS 26 beta onto their eligible devices using either the developer beta or public beta, but generally speaking beta system software is only appropriate for advanced users.
