Apple Earth Day Hidden Nature Wallpapers

Apple has been running an Earth Day Lessons campaign aimed at students to raise awareness of various environmental issues surrounding conservation, ecosystems, and ecology. Like many other microsites on Apple.com, these web pages are filled with beautiful high resolution images, this time themed around Earth, featuring subjects from zebras, shorelines, kelp forests, to tree farms and sea otters. Well it turns out if you spend a little bit of time with the Web Inspector tool, you can uncover some pretty great wallpapers on the Apple environmental focus site.

All of the images below are extracted from the Apple.com Earth Day lessons page here and linked to the Apple CDN for easy downloading. The image resolution varies per picture, but each is aimed at a Retina display so they should be more than sufficient for setting as wallpaper on just about any device you have laying around.

Click on any of the images below to launch the full sized version in a new window:

Tree farm

Shoreline

Sun river

Tundra

Waterfall open shutter

Grassy shoreline

Cheetahs drinking water

Kelp forest

Sea otter

Urchins

Under water

Zebras

These are a bit more nature focused than the hidden wallpapers from last years Earth day page on Apple.com, but if you prefer abstractions you can also check out the wallpapers on the iPhone microsite or the creativity focused Start Something New microsite from Apple.com too.

And if you’re not into these for whatever reason, check out other our great wallpaper posts here.

So why make them ‘hidden’? Why not make these wonderful pictures easily available?

    • Ted says:

      Because that’s Apple… they are “entitled”…

    • Ted the Toad says:

They’re web images for the web page, not intended to be wallpapers or decorative beyond being Retina assets for those with high resolution displays. I agree though, Apple has a lot of wonderful images in their ad campaigns and marketing that could be available as wallpapers in an easy manner.

  2. Ted says:

Thanks. I think most Apple wallpapers have to issue that they are too bright. Granted, there are many people out there who like to burn their eyes out with a completely white background, but would be nice to have a balance choice between dark and light.

  3. Phil says:

Come on Apple, loosen up. Make this stuff easily available to download and readily accessible.

  4. Mark says:

I would have thought most people use one of their own photos anyway when they change the wallpaper, or from one of the billions of wallpaper sites on the web, no need to go searching for “hidden” stuff.

  5. Bert Visscher says:

I don’t know what the problem is. I can just right-click on any of these images and set them as my desktop wallpaper.
