The First Windows Phone 7 Commercial Debuts [Video]

microsoft-logo This is the first commercial for Windows Phone 7, which was announced on 10/4/10 at a press conference from Microsoft.

In case you didn’t know or don’t care, Windows Phone 7 is Microsoft’s new foray into the mobile world. They’re getting a bit of a late start, but Windows Phone is hoping to compete directly with Apple’s popular iPhone/iOS and Google’s Android (yea, Palm WebOS and Blackberry OS are somewhere in this race too, but I don’t care for either).

Here is the commercial, embedded for easy watching:

I think the commercial is actually pretty good, and the OS experience looks decent too. It’ll be interesting to see where Windows Phone goes and how it stacks up to iOS with both consumers and developers, it’s certainly an uphill battle at this point.

Now I wonder if Microsoft plans to use Windows Phone as a tablet OS too, or if they’re going to dump Windows 7 onto touchscreens. If Windows 7 is their definitive tablet OS, the iPad has already won that side of the war.

I really like the commercial, it’s funny and actually captures people and life which is what Apple traditionally does best with their advertising. This is pretty unusual for Microsoft and it’s probably the best ad campaign they’ve put out. It’ll resonate if they continue with the theme, everyone can relate to missing out on life because we’re all glued to the technology in our hands.

MUCH better than the horrific Android commercials too, which practically give my kids nightmares with the creepy voice and evil looking robots with pulsating red lights.

Still, Apple won this round two years ago, it’s a complete role reversal from the desktop margins with Windows dominating Mac. And with that, I’m back to my iPhone, as I’m sure is the case with everyone else who owns one.
