Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

Apple has released the first developer preview of Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion today, the next major release of the Mac operating system. Mac OS X Mountain Lion looks has even stronger iOS influence than OS X Lion and brings many iOS features to the Mac platform. Some of the rumored features like iMessage and AirPlay Mirroring are included, although as of yet there is no mention of Siri. Here are the prominent new OS X 10.8 features to be expected:

  • Messages – replaces iChat to bring full iMessage support to the Mac
  • Notification Center – just like iOS
  • Share Sheets – allows easy sharing of links, videos, photos between apps
  • AirPlay mirroring – send wireless video to an Apple TV
  • Notes
  • Reminders
  • Game Center
  • Twitter Integration
  • Gatekeeper – anti-Malware app installation guard

OS X Mountain Lion is reportedly built with iCloud integration in mind, and we can expect to see many conveniences of the cloud tied further into Mac OS X.

Here is what Phil Schiller said about OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Developer Preview:

“The Mac is on a roll, growing faster than the PC for 23 straight quarters, and with Mountain Lion things get even better,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The developer preview of Mountain Lion comes just seven months after the incredibly successful release of Lion and sets a rapid pace of development for the world’s most advanced personal computer operating system.”

I tried to download the new OS and it completely erased my hard drive. Nothing was left. It just kept trying to install, then crash, then tell me I had fatal issues with my drive that could not be repaired. Genius Bar wanted to sell me a new hard disk. I attempted to restore from Time Machine. After several hours, I had my computer back (with no disk errors). I got a refund on my purchase. If you are thinking of buying the upgrade, better back up first!

I don’t like it so far, namly the new screen savers, they look horrid and the classic one which had nothing wrong with it had nice smooth transitions, it has gone to the dumps! It has limited photos the transitions are not fluid at all and it moves way to fast. pictures look grainy it ***** it does not even go full screen and ken burns effect looks like a kid made a slide show no class at all it is that bad!!!!!!!!!

Also in safari the google search is gone it is intergrated into the address bar, the reason I don’t like it is before you could change your search engine from the browser and also see your past searches pretty handy, now you cant???????? plus all this twitter **** gona raise security isues I would think…… anyway that is my oppinion and I have used osx since 10.0.1

VERY POOR fix the screen saver back to the way it was I know it is a small thing but small things say alot!!!!

One good thing I noticed The tracking on my magic mouse seems better!!!!!!

I really don’t know why people are complaining Mac OS X 10.8 doesn’t have enough new features and should be a free update.

In my opinion it’s a great update and it has everything I’ve been waiting for.

A few months ago I sent an e-mail to Apple asking for a more unified Mac/iOS experience, which means iOS apps and features like iMessage, Notification Center and Airplay to be integrated in Mac OS X, better integration of iCloud in Mac OS X, to be able to really share things like reminders across all devices, not only iOS devices.

Now Apple announced Mac OS X 10.8 and it’s exactly how I imagined the next version of Mac OS X. This is how I want Mac OS X to be. Thanks Apple.

Mountain Lion Wallpaper: you can actually find way better wallpapers through Google. Mountain-Lion doesn’t really offer anything ‘new’ as much as it is really a fractal improvement. I believe we’ve reached the point in technology where we really don’t know where to go. I’m good with my Lion.

Free I mean to all OSX Lion Users.

  12. KKDK says:

There is noting much improved apart from integrating stuff around, I would definitely say Apple has to give it as free update to all Mac OSX users. There is not lot improved from performance/footprint of OS apart from improving Integration of iOS with MacOSX. There are lot of improvements from Leopard to SnowLeopard, but not much from Lion to Mountain Lion, so my vote is no no to $$ update unless its free.
