iTunes 11.3 Released with iTunes Extras
Apple has released iTunes 11.3, adding multiple improvements to the iTunes Extra feature. iTunes Extras often include behind-the-scenes video clips, short films, galleries, director commentary, and other related supplementals to primary iTunes content.
The primary change brought with iTunes 11.3 is to include iTunes Extras with any purchased HD movies at no additional cost.
Release notes for iTunes 11.3 which accompany the download are as follows:
“iTunes 11.3 includes all-new iTunes Extras for HD movies. iTunes Extras can include behind-the-scenes videos, short films, high-resolution image galleries, director’s commentary, scenes, and more. These immersive iTunes Extras can also be enjoyed on Apple TV with Apple TV Software Update 6.2 now, and will be available on iOS 8 this fall.
New iTunes Extras will be automatically added to your previously purchased movies as they become available—at no additional charge.”
Presumably some minor bug fixes and other small changes have also been made, but they are not specifically mentioned in the release notes.
The easiest way to update to the newest version of iTunes is through > Software Update or directly from the iTunes app. Those interested can also get the latest version from Apple’s download page.
The iTunes Extra feature is now also available to Apple TV users running version 6.2 of the Apple TV system software, which was released a while ago alongside new versions of iOS. Speaking of iOS, Apple also states that the iTunes Extras features will be available on the mobile platform with the release of iOS 8 this fall.
Awesome… now I can watch a previously downloaded movie on my Windows 7 which I can’t.
