Vintage inspired Mac Setup

We’re sharing the fun vintage inspired Mac setup of Ryan N., who has everything from Macs of days gone by to other assorted components of yesteryear like a rotary phone and a rusty old Route 66 sign. Let’s jump in to learn a bit more about this great workstation:

What hardware makes up your Mac setup?

I have two main machines in my setup. The first is a mid 2011 2.5Ghz 21.5″ iMac with 32GB RAM, 128GB SSD and two external hard drives for back up. My other main machine is a 2014 15″ Retina MacBook Pro with a Quad Core i7, 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.

I chose the MacBook Pro because I edit a lot of GoPro footage on the fly, often of rowing training sessions etc.

Other machines in my setup include an eMac under the desk, two Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Minis, 17″ iMac G5, Power Mac G5, Quicksilver G4, Graphite G4 PowerMac, 15″ PowerBook G4 under the desk, and finally a 17″ PowerBook G4 left of the iMac G5. Overall I have tried to mix in my love of vintage technology with modern technology and I think it has worked quite well.

What do you use your workstation for?

I use my Apple gear mainly for my photography work and video editing 2.7k Go Pro footage.

What are some of the apps you use most often?

Photoshop CS6, Pages, Aperture 3. Nik Software Photographic suite, Microsoft Office, Final Cut Pro X, and Spotify.

How is that big clock being displayed? Is it an App or a screensaver…?

Thank you so much for the vintage look. Like Ryan i too have several Macs and I never considered doing a vintage setup/design scheme. Thank you so much for the inspiration, I am ready to try my own.

  4. Nice contrast! I love vintage tech. If it still works, keep it. I have a 23 year old Mac Classic. It still works. Boots up every time.

What type of speakers do you have on each side of the iMac in the 1st picture?

Nice Mac, I like the MacBook Pro stand too.

I drove a bit on Route 66 last summer, it’s kind of a ghost highway now with Hwy 40 taking over most of it, many boarded up shops in the middle of nowhere. Makes for an interesting trip. Very popular with Europeans too.
