Update iOS or iPadOS beta to final

Want to update an iOS / iPadOS beta device to the final stable public version of system software? Are you currently running iOS beta on iPhone or iPadOS beta on iPad and want to be sure that future software updates are the final official stable builds, rather than beta versions?

If you want to leave the beta program and update iPhone or iPad to the final official public version of iOS or iPadOS releases, read on to learn how to accomplish this.

How to Update from iPadOS / iOS Beta to Final

The simplest way to leave the beta program and install the final version of iOS or iPadOS is as follows:

  1. Remove the iPadOS / iOS beta profile by going to Settings > General > Profile > tap on “iOS / iPadOS beta profile” and choose to delete the profile
  2. Restart the iPad or iPhone by turning it off and back on again *
  3. Go to Settings app > General > Software Update to find the final versions of iPadOS / iOS available to download

Beta versions of iOS / iPadOS still showing up in Software Update?

If you still see a beta version available in the Software Update section of the Settings app, you may need to delete the existing beta version download from the device by going to Settings > General > iPhone / iPad Storage > and removing the beta update from the device. Then make sure you have removed the beta profile from the device, reboot, and return to the Settings app.

Alternate Method for Updating to Final iOS / iPadOS Versions: Using a Computer

If for some reason this fails, you can still update to the latest final iOS and iPadOS releases from iTunes or a Mac with Catalina by connecting the device to a computer and choosing to update it from there. You can also use IPSW for updating to the final release this way too, but that’s generally for advanced users.

Whichever of the above approaches you choose will also remove the iPad or iPhone from the beta testing program, thereby preventing the device from getting future beta system software updates. Instead, the iPad will only receive final stable builds of future iPadOS releases, or the iPhone will only receive final stable builds of future iOS releases.

The same technique applies to leaving the iOS beta and getting the latest iOS 13.1.1 and iPadOS 13.1.1 update which is a final build version.

Remember to remove the iOS beta profile from any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch you don’t want getting future beta system software updates as well. By ditching the beta profile, the devices will receive final builds instead.

Choosing to stay on the beta release is another option, but if you do stay on the beta release you will continue to receive new beta system software updates to iPadOS and iOS, including iOS 13.2 / iPadOS 13.2 beta, iOS 13.2 / iPadOS 13.3 beta, iOS 13.4 / iPadOS 13.4 etc, and many users would probably prefer to have the final stable builds on their devices instead.

* You can also hard reboot the iPhone or iPad by forcing it to restart, but the process to do so depends on each device. You can refer to how to force restart all iPhone and iPad models with clickable Home buttons, how to force restart iPad Pro (2018 and newer, Face ID models), force restarting iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, force restarting iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and force restarting iPhone X.

Did you leave the beta program and update to the final version of iOS or iPadOS? Did you use one of the methods described above, or did you try something else? Let us know your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.

Just letting you know I upgraded my iPad to 13.1.1 and although I didn’t use it for 24 hours the battery went from 100% to 11% without any use at all. Glad Apple’s still signing 12.4.1 because I’ve gone back to that and no way will I be upgrading.

I’m going to take note of what you’ve said and keep a close eye on my battery levels.

I just switched from iPadOS Beta to iPadOS 13.2
