iOS 12.4.5 update

Apple has released iOS 12.4.5 for a select group of older model iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models that are unable to run the latest iOS 13.3.1 and iPadOS 13.3.1 releases.

According to the brief release notes accompanying the download, iOS 12.4.5 “provides important security updates” and is therefore recommended for all eligible users to install on their devices. No new features are expected to be included in the release.

The iOS 12.4.5 update is available specifically for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch 6th generation.

For users with an eligible device they should install the iOS 12.4.5 update to receive the latest security updates for those devices.

How to Download & Install iOS 12.4.5 Update

Before installing any software update be certain to backup iPhone or iPad to iCloud, Finder in MacOS 10.15 and later, or iTunes on older MacOS and Windows versions. After a backup is complete, installing iOS 12.4.5 is easy:

  2. Go to “General”
  3. Choose “Software Update”
  4. Select “Download & Install” when “iOS 12.4.5” is shown as available to download as a software update

The device will reboot to complete installation.

iOS 12.4.5 Compatibility

iOS 12.4.5 is limited to specific model devices, including iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch 6th generation.

Newer devices can run the latest versions of iOS 13 and iPadOS 13.

Keep getting error on certain websites only “this browser does not allow cookies”. I do not have them blocked, they are enabled, iOS version 12.4.5, for my iPad. This is happening consistently on one particular website, for Colorado ABLE account Enroll and/or Log-in options. Works fine on my iPhone XR, which has a a newer iOS but this didn’t used to be a problem on my iPad.

Battery drain is a huge problem in IOS 12.4.5 update. Please apple you have to do something as soon as possible.

  4. emily says:

I’m also having many of these same issues, battery draining fast, phone will shut off randomly, but now it is showing error message about updating and I have no cellular service! Help! Have tried all the restarts and refreshing network settings and taking out SIM card, still no service.

  5. Elkay says:

My iPad Air updated to 12.4.5 and now everything I touch (emails, Kindle, Safari, Camera) briefly opens and then immediately goes back to the Home page or to a black page. Basically nonfunctional. Will this fix itself? Or do I have to think about buying a new one? :-(

  6. Chris says:

5s. My first one kept freezing with the update prior to this. So I Bought 2nd 5s never updated. Works Fast -working great as the first one did before. Dropped Siri off everything.

  7. Andrew says:

12.4.5 bricked my 5s. Suddenly has no service and the dreaded “Cellular Update Failed” error that iPhone 7 got with 12.1.

  8. Sean alte says:

    OMG my phone 😭

  9. Mary Mitchell says:

My iPhone 6 will not hold a charge since I downloaded this 12.4.5 update. My battery is getting hot when it was in charger. My battery capacity dropped to 98% since yesterday. I did this update about 5 days ago and started losing my battery. I am not happy and I expect Apple to do something about it!!!!!

  10. Veris says:

Ever since I downloaded this software update, my iPad hasn’t been charging properly. Currently it doesn’t charge at all! I’ve been trying different cables thinking there must’ve been something wrong with my charger but it still doesn’t work.

  11. Jo says:

Since the last update none of my songs on the iTunes playlist will play. Absolutely rubbish, I am seriously sick of iPhones, it has been way too long I put up with it. It’s time to buy a new smartphone and it won’t be apple brand.

  12. Margaret says:

Draining battery in weird ways. From fully charged at 8 AM, to 1% at 3 PM, plug it in, battery reads 63% … so which is it, 1% or 63%? That is quite a range. Might as well tell me nothing.
Very strange behavior, will back it out if possible.

  13. Unhappy says:

It is draining my battery big time now. How can I uninstall the update. I just put a new battery in it too. Not happy.
    It’s also freezing up.

  14. Dylan says:

    My iPad doesn’t have Memoji’s

  15. Steve says:

Since the update, apps open randomly and the keys are off. If I’m typing a text message, the keys are not synced up. For example, clicking the x to delete enters a string of other keys that just keep filling in.

  16. Maire says:

12.4.5 is the first update I’ve let automatically go through in years on my 6plus, which is the phone I use when overseas. I’m suddenly having lots of issues related to touch screen response but it’s absolutely disastrous for battery life. As soon as it is unplugged it loses 1% per 2 seconds! I’m trying to downgrade it to a previous update. I sure wish I’d read all the reviews first. I haven’t let the latest update go through on my newer iPhone, and I’ll never allow automatic updates again.

  17. Nyla says:

I can’t connect my Apple Watch because it says I need to do a software update but there isn’t one

I am using expressvpn. I have no issues with all my apps and connections using the new update. Except my Whatsapp cannot connect to the internet coincidentally with the introduction of the new software.

  20. Patrick says:

Auto Installed 12.4.5 last night on my Ipad mini and now the cellular says error and I can’t seem to fix it

Same as mine. It always crashes in the middle of the game even after reinstalling

  22. Belinda says:

How do I get the cellar on my phone to make the calls last longer instead of waiting 2hrs how can I make it go longer

  23. Dan says:

Updated and cannot connect to any servers using NordVPN

My safari no longer syncs from my iPhone 6 Plus to my IPad since doing the updates.

  25. Ronald says:

Always crash ios 12.4.4 iphone 6 in mobile legends when i playing

  26. Les says:

    Maybe only a small thing.

When I am typing extra letters get added to words.
    Never happened in the past.
Just annoying and not something I would expect from Apple.

  27. Pooja says:

It’s great to see Apple take care of their customer’s safety by patching iOS vulnerabilities. Continuing on customer safety are you planing on implementing ssl encryption for this web site to protect people from bad actors who temper with unencrypted pages at open WiFi access points? It’s possible to hack a phone by injecting JavaScript into an unencrypted page. Ssl protects from this.
