How to Force Quit Apps on Apple Watch
Ever had an Apple Watch app freeze or become unresponsive? if so, you may wish to force quit the Apple Watch app.
As far as the Apple Watch has come in recent years, some aspects of the device and apps can still be a little rough around the edges. Sometimes it can get itself a little tied up with whatever it was doing. That’s when it needs a metaphorical nudge. A poke in the ribs to wake it up. Or more accurately, it needs the troublesome app to be quit.
Simply pressing the Digital Crown is normally enough to quit an app on Apple Watch. But you might need to force quit an app when things aren’t going as they should. Then you can re-open it and retry whatever you were doing when everything ground to a halt.
With just two buttons on the Apple Watch, it’s pretty clear that force quitting an app isn’t going to be a complicated affair. And all it needs is a couple of button presses. You just need to know which to press, and when.
How to Force Quit Apps on Apple Watch
If regularly quitting the app doesn’t do the trick, here’s how you can force quit an app on Apple Watch:
- Press and hold the Side button while the app that you want to force quit is still on-screen. Hold the button until the power-off screen appears.
- Let go of the Side button, then press and hold the Digital Crown until the app quits.
Now you can re-open the app. Hopefully whatever was wrong won’t happen again.
If you continue to experience issues with the app on Apple Watch, make sure you’re using the latest version of the app in question. You’ll also want to check that you are using the latest version of watchOS and iOS, too.
And if the app issues still persist? Try reaching out to the developer of the problematic app if you continue to have problems. If it’s one of Apple’s apps, contact a person at Apple Support and they might be able to assist you as well.
You may find that force quitting apps on Apple Watch is relatively simple once you know how it works, similar to how quitting apps on iPhone 11, XS, XR, etc is relatively straight, and force quitting apps on Mac is easy too. As usual, the key is knowing how it works, which is typically different for each device.
