Beta 2 of MacOS Big Sur 11.1 Released for Testing
The second beta version of macOS Big Sur 11.1 is available to users who are enrolled in the Mac system software beta testing programs.
Typically the developer beta build is available first and soon followed by the same build to public beta users.
Separately, iOS 14.3 beta 3 and ipadOS 14.3 beta 3 are also available for users involved in those testing program.
MacOS Big Sur 11.1 beta likely focuses on bug fixes and refinements to macOS Big Sur, as there do not appear to be outward major features or changes. It’s possible the macOS 11.1 beta aims to resolve some of the issues experienced with macOS Big Sur by some users, whether it’s sluggish performance or wi-if issues, but those details won’t be known until the final release is in user hands and release notes are made available.
How to Download MacOS Big Sur 11.1 Beta 2
For users enrolled in the macOS beta program, 11.1 beta 2 can be downloaded now.
Always Backup the Mac with Time Machine before installing any system software update, but particularly with beta releases.
- From the Apple menu, select “System Preferences”
- Choose “Software Update”
- Select to update macOS Big Sur 11.1 beta 2
The Mac will reboot to complete, as usual.
Beta software is aimed at advanced users, and is not recommended for casual use. If you’re interested in running macOS Big Sur 11 you should simply download and install macOS Big Sur on a compatible Mac. Technically speaking, anyone can enroll and install the public beta onto their computer however.
If you’re running macOS Big Sur but no longer want to receive beta build updates like this, be sure to unenroll from the beta program.
Hope Apple fixes permission issues in the next Big Sur release
