How to Challenge a Friend to an Apple Watch Activity Competition
Want to get competitive with your Apple Watch? You can challenge a friend, family member, coworker, or anyone else with an Apple Watch to an activity competition!
Competition is always a good way to spur people on to achieve a goal, and that’s most definitely the case in terms of exercise. Sure, you can compete with yourself, set fitness goals, and gain your own achievements but competing with a friend adds some much-needed spice. And you can do it all from your Apple Watch.
You’re probably already sharing your Activity data with your friends, but going further you can compete with any of them too. Competing with a friend allows you to go head-to-head with them in a points-based battle. And it could be just what you need to push you to go that extra mile!
Apple explains how the competition will work:
During the competition, you both earn points by filling your Activity rings. You get a point for every percentage point that you add to your rings each day and you can earn up to 600 points a day. That’s a max of 4,200 points for the week.
Sound fun? Let’s see how this works.
Starting an Apple Watch Competition From Your iPhone
You’ll need iOS 12 or later and watchOS 5 or later to compete with someone, and the person you’re competing with will also need to meet the same requirements as well. Assuming that’s all squared away:
- Open the Apple Watch on your iPhone to get started.
- Tap the “Sharing” tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the name of the friend that you want to compete with.
- Tap the “Compete with [name]” button.
- Tap “Invite [name]” to confirm the action.
That’s how you invite someone to an activity competition from iPhone, but of course you can also start a competition directly from Apple Watch too.
Starting a Competition From Your Apple Watch
Again, you’ll need the Activity app to get started. From the Apple Watch:
- Swipe across to the Sharing screen and then tap the name of the person you’d like to compete with.
- Turn the Digital Crown or swipe the screen to scroll down and tap “Compete”.
- Tap “Invite [name]” to send an invitation.
Whichever way you start the competition, you’ll receive a notification when your invitation has been accepted no matter the method you use.
If you don’t yet meet the software requirements, ensure that you are running the latest version of iOS by updating the iPhone and watchOS by updating Apple Watch too.
