Separately, Mac users also will find macOS Monterey 12.5.1 update available with security patches as well.

How to Download & Update to iOS 15.6.1 & iPadOS 15.6.1

Backup the iPhone or iPad to iCloud, Finder, or iTunes before beginning a system software update.

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”, and then to “Software Update”
  3. Choose to “Download and Install” for iOS 15.6.1 or iPadOS 15.6.1

Installing the software updates will require the iPhone or iPad to restart.

Users can also opt to install the software update through a computer by using Finder on Mac, or iTunes on a Windows PC.

Update to 15.6.1 only worked via iTunes, like the previous updates as well. Not even a complete restore fixes the problem of not being able to update over the air.

But it went through with iTunes in Windows 10, no problems so far.

Have a 2018 Mac Mini, did the update and then got a strange sign in glitch. It requested my Apple ID password, but my keyboard wouldn’t register any inputs. I finally opted to skip sign in, and it got me to my regular home screen signed in? Sort of a glitchy update, I guess? Still amazes me how long it takes to install even a small update on a Mac.
