MacOS Big Sur 11.7.4 Released with Bug Fixes
Apple has released MacOS Big Sur 11.7.4 with bug fixes for Mac users who are continuing to run the MacOS Big Sur operating system. MacOS Big Sur 11.7.4 fixes an issue with Safari where favorite icons would not load, and apparently also includes some security updates.
No concurrent update is available for MacOS Monterey users, however MacOS Ventura 13.2.1 is available for Ventura users.
Additionally, Safari 16.3 is available for both MacOS Big Sur and MacOS Monterey.
How to Download macOS Big Sur 11.7.4 Update
Always back up Mac with Time Machine before installing a system software update.
- Go to the Apple menu and select “System Preferences”
- Click on the “Software Update” control panel
- Choose to update to macOS Big Sur 11.7.4
If you see the big banner for updating to macOS Ventura and can’t find the Big Sur update, click on the “More Info…” tiny text under the banner referencing additional updates. You can learn about installing macOS Monterey and MacOS Big Sur updates without installing MacOS Ventura here if needed.
You will also likely find an update to Safari 16.3 available.
The Mac will need to restart to complete installation.
I know this is a bit trivial, but: Apple needs to upgrade its aesthetics. Those Big Sur and later login screens are truly awful, and security updates have taken away the ability to change them using an app like Boot Buddy. Jonathan Ive made some questionable decisions but both hardware and software looked good.
