iOS 17.0.1 & iPadOS 17.0.1 Updates Released with Security Fixes
Apple has released the first software update to their newest operating systems for iPhone and iPad users, versioned as iOS 17.0.1 for iPhone, and iPadOS 17.0.1 for iPad. The software update contains important security updates and is therefore recommended for all users of the iOS/iPadOS 17 operating systems to install.
Separately, Apple has released iOS 16.7 for iPhone and iPadOS 16.7 for iPad for users who are not able (or willing) to install iOS/iPadOS 17.x, along with macOS Ventura 13.6, and macOS Monterey 12.7, for Mac users. Apple Watch users will also find watchOS 10.0.1 or watchOS 9.6.3. If you’re a Mac beta tester, you’ll find the second release candidate of macOS Sonoma available.
How to Download & Install iOS 17.0.1 / iPadOS 17.0.1
Prior to starting the system software updates, be sure you backup iPhone/iPad to iCloud, Finder, or a windows PC. After that, installing the update will be familiar:
- Open “Settings” on iPhone or iPad
- Go to “General”
- Select “Software Update”
- Select to “Download and Install” for iOS 17.0.1 / iPadOS 17.0.1
As usual, installing the update requires the iPhone or iPad to restart.
You can also update your iPhone or iPad using a computer and USB cable, where updates are available in Finder on a Mac, or iTunes on a PC. Advanced users can use IPSW files from Apple to update manually as well.

I was unable to log in to my brokerage yesterday or this morning until I did the iPad-17 security update. Since I was able to log in on my old iPhone SE (15.7.9), I knew iPad OS17 was the culprit. An update fixed the problem. I wish Apple would test these changes before they are released!
