How to Turn Off SharePlay on iPhone
The latest versions of iOS for iPhone default to enabling a feature called SharePlay, which allows you to easily share Spotify, Apple Music, Podcasts, and many other media experiences, easily with whoever you’re having a FaceTime audio or FaceTime video call with. While this feature can be convenient for the intended purposes, it can also be annoying and frustrating, as you’ll be prompted with pop-ups to use SharePlay anytime you’re on a FaceTime call with another person, usually for whatever the last multimedia app experience you were engaging with involved. Or, if you’re listening to something on say Spotify, and you get an incoming FaceTime call, you’ll get the SharePlay pop-up appearing, whether you want to or not.
If you don’t have any interest in using SharePlay on iPhone and you’re annoyed with the SharePlay pop-ups on iPhone, read along to turn the feature off completely on iPhone or iPad.
How to Completely Disable SharePlay on iPhone
Want to turn off SharePlay on iPhone? Here’s how to do that:
- Open the ‘Settings’ app on iPhone
- Go to “FaceTime”
- Go to “SharePlay”
- Toggle the switch for “SharePlay” to the OFF position to disable the feature
There you go, SharePlay has now been disabled. This will apply to both FaceTime Video and FaceTime Audio calls, as well as Group FaceTime conversations.
With SharePlay disabled, you will no longer get these type of SharePlay pop-ups showing up on your iPhone when you’re on a FaceTime call:
You can re-enable SharePlay at any time by going back to Settings > FaceTime > SharePlay > SharePlay > ON.
This also applies to SharePlay on the iPad too, since iPadOS is basically just iOS for a larger display and Apple Pencil support, but obviously we’re focusing on the iPhone here. Nonetheless, if you’re looking to disable SharePlay on the iPad, the setting is in the same place on iPhone and iPad.
