iOS 18.0.1 update is available to install now

Apple has released iOS 18.0.1 for iPhone and iPadOS 18.0.1 for iPad. The purpose of these small updates is to fix various bugs and resolve a variety of security issues that were present in the 18.0 releases of iOS/iPadOS.

Specifically, iOS 18.0.1 aims to resolve some issues with touch screens and camera functionality on iPhone 16 models, patches a bug where Messages would crash if you shared an Apple Watch face, and resolves an issue with performance and memory allocation on some iPhone models. There are also a handful of security fixes included as well. The full release notes are shown further below.

Separately, you’ll find software updates for MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1, watchOS 11.0.1, visionOS 2.0.1, and Safari 18.0.1 for MacOS Sonoma and Ventura.

How to Download & Install iOS 18.0.1 Update

Updating to iOS 18.0.1 or iPadOS 18.0.1 is super easy, be sure to backup to iCloud and/or your computer first, then:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”, then to “Software Update”
  3. Select “Update Now” to download and install iOS 18.0.1 or iPadOS 18.0.1

The device must restart to finish installation, as usual.

The update is fairly small, so downloading and installing iOS 18.0.1 or iPadOS 18.0.1 shouldn’t take too long.

As always, you can also update with a computer using Finder or iTunes as well.

I got around to updating my iPhone and iPad to 18. My opinion is that it has not moved the bar much for IOS or iPad OS. That’s actually fine with me as I think both have sort of reached a level of maturity and stability. I was hoping to experience better battery life over 17 but I wasn’t expecting that to be the case.
