How to Upload Documents to ChatGPT
ChatGPT allows you to upload documents, which you can then describe, analyze, summarize, explain, or even get assistance with that particular document. ChatGPT works with just about any document type that you might be working with or come across in the world of tech and computers, including .pdf, .doc, .docx, .txt, .rtf, .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .ppt, .pptx, .md, .json, .xml, .html, as well as image file formats like JPG, GIF, PNG, and more.
Why might you want to upload a document to ChatGPT? Well there are plenty of practical applications for this. For example, maybe you were provided with a tax form that you’re not sure about, you can upload it to ChatGPT and have ChatGPT explain the purpose of that particular file, and even get assistance in how to fill the form out properly. How to Upload a File / Document to ChatGPT
Uploading documents and files to ChatGPT to work with is super easy once you learn how it works:
- Open the ChatGPT app, or go to the ChatGPT website
- Start a new Chat if you have not done so already
- On the ChatGPT app, click the + plus button (if you’re using ChatGPT on the web, click on the paperclip icon)
- Choose “Upload File”
- Now navigate to the file or document you wish to upload and analyze, or get assistance with
- Give ChatGPT a prompt for what to do with the document you provide, for example “describe this document and what it is used for”, or “interpret this document and summarize key points, make note of anything unusual”
- Let ChatGPT work it’s magic and interpret the document or file for you
