MacOS Sequoia 15.7.2 & MacOS Sonoma 14.8.2 Updates Released

Nov 4, 2025 - Leave a Comment

MacOS Sequoia 15.7.2 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.2 are available as software updates for Mac users who are not running the macOS Tahoe operating system. Safari 26.1 is also available as an update for these versions of MacOS.

These are security updates for macOS Sonoma and Sequoia, and the updates do not include new features or bug fixes, as Apple has devoted those efforts into the macOS Tahoe 26.1 update, which is freshly released as well.

Separately, Apple has also released iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, macOS Tahoe 26.1, watchOS 26.1, tvOS 26.1, and visionOS 26.1, so you’ll want to update your other Apple devices as well.

How to Download & Install MacOS Sequoia 15.7.2 & MacOS Sonoma 14.8.2 Update

Don’t forget to backup your Mac with Time Machine first. You’ll also want to be cautious to avoid accidentally updating to macOS Tahoe, since Apple is aggressively promoting that in the Software Update settings.

  1. From the  Apple menu, go to “System Settings”
  2. Go to “General”, and then select “Software Update”
  3. Ignore the MacOS Tahoe 26.1 update at the top of the Software Update screen, and instead look further below to where MacOS Sequoia 15.7.2 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.2 are shown as available, and update that instead*

* Note: You might want to click the (i) button and make sure that MacOS Sequoia 15.7.2 or MacOS Sonoma 14.8.2 is selected specifically, along with Safari 26.1, because there are reports from some users of accidentally installing macOS Tahoe 26.1 onto a Mac, and that Tahoe was selected instead in the Sequoia/Sonoma updates info section.

The Mac will need to restart to complete installation. The update may take a while to install, so be patient.
