4 Tips for Helping Fix iOS 26 Keyboard Complaints & Issues

Feb 19, 2026 - 1 Comment

iOS 26 keyboard issues are commonly reported on iPhone and there are a few workarounds that can help

A fair number of iPhone users are complaining of problems with the keyboard in iOS 26. From typing lag, slow responsiveness, sluggish typing, incorrect characters, weird typos, entire words being corrected to the wrong word, aggressive autocorrect and autocorrection failures with typos, missed characters when typing words, and what those irritated say is a general decline in the keyboard experience of iOS 26.

If you’re experiencing problems with the iOS 26 keyboard on iPhone you’re not alone, and there’s a few tricks and workarounds that might help you improve the typing experience with iOS 26 for iPhone.

1: Turn Off Slide to Type

Some users report strange typing behavior, sluggishness, erroneous autocorrections, excessive predictive typing, and other curious behavior.

Some users report that Slide To Type activates erroneously and causes weird typos or words to be typed that were not intended. Turning this feature off prevents this from happening.

Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Slide to Type > toggle OFF

2: Disable Predictive Text

Some users complain of overly aggressive autocorrection or word replacements, or words that are typing they do not intend to write. Other users report they type one word but it gets replaced with another word they did not intend to type. There are also complaints about predictive typing showing unhelpful or unusual suggestions for words. Disabling predictive text may help stop this behavior:

Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Predictive Text > toggle OFF

These two settings can help your iOS 26 keyboard issues if they relate to slide to type and predictive text

3: Help Incorrect or Missing Characters with Typing on iOS 26 Keyboard

Some users report they tap on one character but another appears on the screen. This could be a touch accuracy issue with iOS 26 or it could be user initiated especially for people who type really fast on their iPhone screen.

This one has less of an obvious workaround or fix, but one thing that helps is typing slower and more deliberately.

Also, be sure to install any available system software updates to iOS 26 when you see them.

4: Always Update to the Latest iOS 26 Updates to Patch Bugs

Each version of iOS includes bug fixes, so it is important to install all available system software updates to iOS 26. If there are known bugs or issues with the keyboard, it is likely that Apple will resolve those in a future software update. Additionally, Apple may refine the keyboard behavior with software updates, so installing the latest iOS 26 update ensures you will receive those adjustments on your iPhone too.

Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check and install anything that is available to you.

Given that typing is a significant way of interacting with an iPhone for common tasks like messages, emails, browsing, social media, notes, passwords, search, and general communication, having keyboard issues is understandably frustrating. If your iPhone keyboard is feeling less responsive, inaccurate, unpredictable, or otherwise strange with iOS 26, you’re not alone with these complaints.

There are some more aggressive tricks too, like disabling autocorrect completely, but most users do not find that desirable since they have grown to become accustomed to autocorrect.

Some users have already reported improvements with the iOS 26 keyboard with the iOS 26.3 update for example, so if you’re on an older version of iOS 26 be sure to update your system software to the latest available version. It’s likely that future software update will further resolve these type of issues as well, so stay updated, and stay tuned.

This is the worst keyboard experience I have ever had.

I made the switch to gboard and it is ok but there are issues with the keyboard covering areas in apps due to the search bar and number row adding extra height.

I watched a video that showed in slow motion where a user typed the letter I and ios26 showed it with the popup of the letter I but replaced it with the character U.
