Split View in Chrome browser is very useful

The latest versions of the Google Chrome browser have built-in split view browser mode, allowing you to have two websites open side by side. This is a really handy feature for many obvious reasons where it’s useful to see two websites or pages open next to each other, whether you’re reading one page and taking notes on another, or composing an email in one side while watching a video next to it, or myriad other situations. And sure you could have just used split screen mode on the Mac to achieve a similar effect, but having Split View built directly into the Chrome browser is super easy to use, and undeniably convenient.

If you’re a Chrome browser user, you’ll want ot familiarize yourself with this handy feature so that you can get the most use from it.

You will need to update to the latest version of Chrome available, or install the newest version of Chrome, to have access to the split view feature. We’re demonstrating this feature on the Mac, but presumably the feature works the same on Chrome for every other device and operating system, including Windows, Android, iPadOS, Linux, and whatever else has a screen sufficiently sized for split view features.

How to Use Split View in Chrome Browser

  1. Open Chrome and visit any webpage as usual
  2. Right-click on a link as if you were going to open it into a new tab or window, but instead choose the new option for “Open Link in Split View”

  4. You will instantly see the link opened in a split view panel, with both web sites/pages open next to each other

You can also open links in either right view or left view, to change the split view pages that are visible:

This is a useful enough feature that it’s certainly possible that Safari will implement a similar capability eventually, but you can also use the native Split View features in MacOS to achieve things like splitting Terminal, and the tablet side can use split screen apps on iPad too.

Have you tried the Split View of Chrome yet? What do you think of having this feature built into a browser? Do you want this feature in Safari, and other web browsers too? Share your thoughts in the comments.
