Poolsuite FM Plays Summery Jams in a Retro-Style Music App
Poolsuite FM is a really fun little free music app for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, that “transports you to a virtual vacation where the sun never sets”, according to the developers, and that’s pretty accurate.
Splashed in retro-Macintosh design and style, launching Poolsuite FM is an immediate flashback to System 7 of Macintosh yesteryear, and then you press play and away you go on a musical journey of summery dance tunes and remixes from the 1980s to present day dance music.
There are seven different ‘radio’ stations in Poolsuite FM that you can tune into, each with a different theme or vibe, but once things for sure, every song is upbeat, dancy, funky, and makes you feel like you’re poolside somewhere in Miami in 1984.
You can even favorite your preferred songs to create an eighth playlist of your favorite cuts.
While the apps appearance is very retro, it supports very modern wireless music playing with AirPlay, so you can instantly play your summer tropical tunes on a HomePod, Sonos, or any other AirPlay compatible speaker.
Whether you’re just lounging around your house, floating on a boat in some tropical paradise, hanging by the pool, or just want some fun upbeat new music to listen to while you work (like I’m using this app right now as I write this), check out Poolsuite FM, it’s fun, whether for the nostalgic value, or the music.
- Get Poolsuite on the App Store for free
To enjoy more endless songs, or to favorite music and create your own little favorites station, you’ll need to create a free login on the app. It’s easy though, don’t worry, and you also can skip the login if you’d rather not bother.
Don’t want to download the app? Then head over to poolsuite.fm on the web, and you’ll “boot” into a retro-Macintosh-esque desktop environment with a virtual music player and virtual apps, where you can appreciate the same music and nostalgic experience.
The iPhone app has the same retro Macintosh vibe as the Mac app, and also has a funny PoolCam feature that allows you to use your iPhone camera to take 1-bit B&W heavily dithered photos that, again, look like something directly from a retro Macintosh computer (and if you recall the fun BitCam app for iPhone then you’ll feel right at home in PoolCam).
Grab the app on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad, or enjoy Poolsuite on the web. Happy summer!
Not a song that I’ve heard in my 78 years on earth.
It’s a funny and eclectic mix of music, old and modern. I’ve had everything from popular hits like Carly Simon, some remix of Fleetwood Mac’s Big Love, to obscure 80s Italian disco, and plenty of disco. Changing the channels is entertaining, it feels like I am listening to the radio to the Majorca night life.
I am enjoying some of the music, but the interface is what really gets me. I just love that early Macintosh look, reminds me of when America was still a shining light, a cohesive country, had some class to the culture, and better times!
What a cool app. Thank you for the suggestion. Using it now.
