iPad 3 to be Released in March with Sharper Screen, Quad-Core CPU, and 4G LTE
The iPad 3 is currently in production for a March release, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Three sources “familiar with the product” say that the new iPad will also have a “sharper” screen, faster quad core processor, and will also include 4G LTE connectivity.
Apple is bringing LTE to the iPad before the iPhone because the tablet has a bigger battery and can better support the power requirements of the newer technology, said one of the people.
The new display is capable of greater resolution than the current iPad, with more pixels on its screen than some high- definition televisions, the person said. The pixels are small enough to make the images look like printed material, according to the person. Videos begin playing almost instantly because of the additional graphics processing, the person said.
Most indications are that the sharper screen described will be at 2,048×1,536 pixel resolution, double the current iPad’s screen of 1024×768, and the quad-core CPU has been hinted at in a variety of ways. The biggest news here, if true, may be the addition of 4G LTE network connectivity, making the next iPad the first Apple device to offer support for the high-speed mobile networks. This would seem to suggest the next iPhone will have LTE support as well.
[…] on the carriers, Apple, the rain, maybe 3G is too slow, or maybe it will be a feature for upcoming 4G LTE iPad and iPhone hardware… who knows, but regardless you can use a little loophole to initiate […]
what’s game on screen of this iPad?
Infinity Blade
Whilst it will surely be a beautiful display, for what purpose do we really need that kind of resolution on a tablet screen? My 27″ iMac has that kind of resolution, but it also is 27″, not 10″, and has a real keyboard and mouse, and lots of horsepower to run apps that can use that screen real estate.
Does everyone really watch that much 1080p video on their iPad? Will websites be rewritten for the much higher DPI?
Still, I want one. :)
… and a battery life worse than iPhone 4S
I would bet that iPad 3 will look identical to iPad 2 on the outside, same thickness, same everything, the only visible difference will be the screen. All internal changes. Ships with iOS 5.1 which is identical to 5.0 from what I have seen.
Ric… it is assumed that the device would have to be thicker due to the dual light bars that would be required to support the larger resolution.
Secondly, how can it be assumed that the next gen iPhone will support LTE? It is possible… but the only reason the iPad might have it (according to the report) is due to the larger battery. I don’t see the iPhone becoming any thicker to support an ‘iPad sized battery’ any time soon.
Hmmm, David, I can’t see why the iPad would become thicker. No reason for that at all. Rumors are seldom, if ever of any value when speaking of Apple. It’s been that way since… well… since 1984.
I suspect Steve had lots of plans for iPad, many of which will come to fruition in future iterations. I trusted in Steve Jobs, and I continue to trust in Apple!
Don’t forget Siri. iPad 2S here we come.
LTE and a retina screen? Maybe the thicker rumors are true after all… seems like a step backwards for aesthetics in the post-Jobs Apple to me, but I hope they surprise us.
