If you need to download iPad firmware and IPSW files, here are the links to do so. These are the original unmodified IPSW files, for versions 3.2 and up for iPad. You can also download iPhone firmware or iPod touch firmware if you need to.

These .ipsw files are hosted on Apple’s servers, it’s best to right-click the file you need and “Save As” to prevent some web browsers from trying to extract the file as an archive.

I really just want 4.2… can’t come soon enough
what improvements does the iPad firmware provide? My biggest pain point with the iPad is the flaky wireless connection.

can anyone tell me why i can not change zip file to ipsw file?
Because it will not work…..Use Safari 5 to download IPSW files. Windows has a problem with this and will download as a zip….Safari will not do this….it will be an IPSW file

Error message prompts “Unable to recognize specified IPSW”. Message appears for all downloaded ipad 2 ipsw files in this website. what seems to be the problem here? thank you very much.

If u can’t change .zip files to .ipsw, (Windows!) make sure you’ve got “hide file extensions for known file types” set OFF in folderoptions.. then just rename to .ipsw

I successfully renamed the .zip files to .ipsw following your suggestion and the files are on my desktop. How do I get them to the iPad2? What’s the next step? Thanks in advance!
Please disregard my previous question. Initially, when I double-clicked the file on my desktop, iTunes was opened but nothing happened. Afterwards, I verified I’m using the most up-to-date version of the program. Eventually, it dawned on me to temporarily disable my anti-virus software, as it usually requires me to take an action each time I connect the iPod to the computer. After taking this step, I was actually able to successfully update the iPad from iTunes itself and then turn back on the anti-virus software.
Why oh why can’t Apple give us links to these themselves on their website? iTunes becomes ‘unresponsive’ so Windows 7 shuts it down in the middle of downloads. Thanks Apple for being overly difficult with your ‘it justs works’ mentality.
I agree that apple does not officially provide these links for the obvious reason of people screwing up.
But you can take heart in the fact that these download links point to the apple server.
why are none of my ipsw files not being recognized?? i have used multliple ipsws for ipad 2 wifi and i want to downgrade to 4.3.3 using redsnow.
You can’t downgrade from 4.3.5 to 4.3.3 unless you have SHSH blobs saved.
