Live Wallpaper for iPhone: vWallpaper
One of the cooler things about Android phones is Live Wallpaper. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s basically animated wallpapers behind your home screen, and the effect can be really flashy. You can get a similar experience on your jailbroken iPhone by using something called vWallpaper. vWallpaper aims to replicate the Live Wallpaper experience by allowing you to run videos as your iPhone wallpaper.
Here’s how to get vWallpaper on your iPhone:
- Add the following source to Cydia: http://i.danstaface.net/deb/
- Search for and install ‘vWallpaper’
- Launch the newly downloaded vWallpaper
- Tap on ‘Video Wallpaper’ and then slide ON to enable the video effect
- Now select the video you want to use as your wallpaper
- You can also download new videos by clicking on ‘Download Videos’
The effect is much easier shown than explained, here’s a random video from YouTube that shows the effect in action:
That particular video is sort of cheesy (falling limera1n icons? alrighty then) but there are many legitimately cool videos you can use. There are tons of other examples on YouTube of vWallpaper but many are NSFW or very poor quality, so have a look around.
This is just pure eyecandy and it’ll probably decimate battery life if you use it for too long. It looks (and runs) much better on the iPhone 4 than it does on older iPhones, because it’s just running an HD video in the background constantly. This differs from the Android approach, which use Java+HTML5 and run animated backgrounds and is much softer on the battery as a result (if there is something like this for the iPhone I haven’t found it yet).
Again, you’ll need to jailbreak your iPhone to use vWallpaper. You can either download limera1n or greenpois0n to accomplish this with iOS 4.1.
when i download it i says file not found/could not open file/ that means a error messege is shown and i can’t install it how can i do it, plz help meee. :(

I love this app!!! One thing that would really be cool for a future update is maybe a random video each time you unlock your phone..
[…] wallpaper. This ends up giving your Mac an effect similar to Android OS’s living wallpapers (you can get living wallpapers on iPhone too but you have to […]
when ever i use any app, the phone automatically resprings and resets the phone. So i have to go threw winter board and respring for the phone to go back to how i had it.

Thank you :)
I prefer vwallpaper to android live screens, simply for the content, there are already tons of awesome hd vids (cause all it is, is reformatting a vid)
And I’ll second that it’s not a huge battery toll, one slider turns it off, too.
Content is king!
This app doesn’t work, it crash my iphone and i restore it, losing all my aplication
Looks kind of like the Matrix eh?
Its all good Paul. I wasn’t offended. :)
HAHAHA. Nice. Thanx for using my “cheesy” video. I just wanted to clear a few things up. First, Using the vWallpaper app, will not use very much battery life. The video ONLY runs when you are on the home screen. You can easily test this by running a video with vWallpaper and opening an app. Every time you close an app, the video will start at the beginning. This is because The video is NOT running in the background. Second point, Yes, most vWallpapers are not high Quality. That is because most were made pre iphone 4. There are a hand full of people converting vWallpapers for the vWallpaper app and we have been working on more higher Quality videos recently. Again Thanx for using my “cheesy” video. LOL.
Hey Pizentu, thanks for the info I didn’t realize the videos weren’t run as a background task (which I guess would stall them from running upon another app anyway).
BTW I meant the falling limera1n icons are a bit cheesy, the actual video is fine :)
Cheers,
Paul
veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy nice
It definitely makes a phone more exciting to look at, but running videos is a half arsed approach.
I’ll wait for a true Live Wallpaper port, it’s bound to happen.
