Jailbreak iPhone iOS 4.3.2 with Redsn0w (Tutorial)

Apr 18, 2011 - 135 Comments

jailbreaking iPhone iOS 4.3.2 with redsn0w Alright iPhone jailbreakers, iOS 4.3.2 now has an untethered jailbreak available thanks to the latest version of Redsn0w. Before we get started, remember that anyone who relies on a carrier unlock like ultrasn0w should not use redsn0w and should not update to 4.3.2 yet. Also, be sure to backup your iPhone beforehand just in case. Jailbreaks are easy to undo but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

And yes, this guide is geared towards the iPhone but it will work the same on any compatible 4.3.2 device, including the iPod touch.

How to Jailbreak iPhone iOS 4.3.2 with Redsn0w 0.9.6rc14 (Untethered)

This guide assumes you have already updated to 4.3.2, if you haven’t, go ahead and do so.

  1. Download the iOS 4.3.2 IPSW for your specific model and save the .IPSW file somewhere you can find it easily
  2. Download Redsn0w 0.9.6rc14 (Windows & Mac supported)
  3. Open Redsn0w and select “Browse” and find the IPSW file for iOS 4.3.2 you just downloaded
  4. Follow redsn0w’s onscreen instructions, and remember to select the checkbox next to “Install Cydia”
  5. Turn off the iPhone and connect it to the computer, then click on “Next”
  6. You will now be asked to put the iPhone into DFU Mode: Hold down Power button for 1 second, continue to hold power while holding Home button for another 10 seconds, now release the power button but continue to hold the Home button for another 15 seconds
  7. After you’re in DFU, redsn0w installs the jailbreak to your iPhone, and then restarts automatically

After your iPhone reboots, you will be jailbroken in iOS 4.3.2, but you can verify this by looking for the Cydia icon. As mentioned earlier, the jailbreak is untethered so you do not have to worry about rebooting the iPhone at anytime.

If it’s ever necessary, unjailbreaking is very easy but you will lose your jailbroken apps and customizations. It’s always a good idea to undo jailbreaks before taking your iPhone into Apple for warranty service.

hi, I installed redsn0w, everything was working fine, I used it for a couple of day and then i try to reboot my ipod, something I do from time to time. First, the ipod would go into a black screen, but I could tell it wasn’t complete off, so I waited for a while and nothing happened, so I pressed the top and home bottom at the same time till it shut off, then I try to restart the ipod and it will show the apple and stays there, nothing else happens, I try rebooting again and nothing. I do remember that after using redsn0w I have to reboot the ipod using redsn0w to boot tethered and a pineapple showed up instead of the apple. Do I need to reboot my ipod using redsn0w everytime I want to reboot my ipod?

  22. Jessica says:

I am having the same problem as John. I have the iphone 3gs with 4.3.1 firmware. I tried a couple different methods to jailbreak and was unsuccessful, the jailbreak didn’t install correctly and because I needed to unlock the phone as well I chose to upgrade to the 6.15.00 baseband, but as I mentioned, the jailbreak was unsuccessful, so now when i try to run the jailbreak using redsn0w, it downloads the jailbreak data but then when the script runs it gets stuck on “please wait” before it says “giving up”. I tried restoring it to factory settings thru itunes but I keep getting an error message. Am i stuck with a brick of a phone?

  23. John says:

I had a unlocked jailbreaked 3gs with bb changed and by mistake my son conected it with the itunes and restore it which put it in DFU mode for ever. I did Jailbreak it again with Redsn0w iOS 4.3.2 but it complete and runs on the phone but after restarting the phone it continues displaying “please wait….” before that perhaps it says giving up!

ANy help will be greatly appriciated!

hi. i’ve unlocked the iPhone 3g with redsnow and followed the steps above – however when the installation finished the phone didn’t reboot / start up all the way but instead it got stuck on the screen when it asks to be connected to itunes.

when i connected it to iTunes the iTunes said that my iPhone is password protected and i have to enter the password on the iphone.

But theres no password request on the iphone screen – the only thing i see is a pic of USB cable pointing at itunes logo!!!

    Help anyone?

I had the same issue as a lot of others have had. I’m on AT&T so not trying to unlock. Just jailbreak. Used redsn0w and went to 4.3.3. After done with restore, I had 1 bar and no service or carrier. Installing Ultrasn0w is a very bad idea if u don’t want to unlock. Then I get no bars and it says no service. I removed untrasn0w and got the 1 bar back. But I had no service, no connection, no cydia, no texting, no calls, no safari. No NOTHING but the apps and stuff ran ok. I looked all over for a solution and tried just about everything. I have 2 3gs phones and one worked and one didn’t. Strange indeed. I swapped sims and the problem stayed with the phone. I tried putting in airplane mode and removing, I tried resetting network, I tried rerunning redsnow. Nothing worked. Finally, I had to basically do everything again.

I backed up again, installed 4.3.3 again, ran redsn0w again and then I had a service back. I installed my main apps from cydia and then loaded up itunes to restore all my regular apps. I noticed that during the restore my connected again said no service. But after step 1 completed and it went to syncing apps on step 2, I now have 3 bars and the AT&T symbol back. I hope it stays. Weird that the other phone went through this just fine. What a waste of a day!

Download SAM and de-activate. Add the following repo in Cydia: http://repo.bingner.com install Install “SAM” and “SAMPrefs” then Go to Settings > SAM, then click “De-Activate iPhone”. Make sure iTunes is on, plug your iPhone and let iTunes activate your iPhone. If iTunes says “Invalid SIM”, you will need to manually select a carrier under Settings > Carrier.

I can’t get my iPhone 4 to break.

I’ve followed the instructions: downloaded 4.3.2 (that’s what’s on the iPhone as well) and Redsn0w RC14.

When I select the ipsw file: it just sits there with a “Processing firmware” message but never gets further.
I started last night and it’s run for 12 hours with no change.
It’s a MacMini running Leopard and the processor is Redsn0w is consuming about 97% of the processor all the time.

    Any ideas what’s going on?

The jailbreak process worked fine but I’m having issues when it comes to applying tweaks and what not.. for example, the dim icons option in winterboard, when I select it, it doesn’t dim the icons immediately but if I press and hold an icon to rearrange all of a sudden it’s dim but when restarting the phone everything goes back to normal.. and when I downloaded the tweak to change the at&t carrier logo it doesn’t change, does anyone know why this would be happening and how can I fix it? • MacPro says:

It sound s like you used an old redsnOw. Did you use redsnOw 0.9.6rc14? It should leave an untethered jailbreak. If this does not help, try Pawnage Tool 4.3.2.

  53. Nabila says:

I just jail broke my iPod touch,, my cydia icon became white n safari doesn’t work either.. plss help me!!

    • MacPro says:

This can easily be fixed. Try to open Cydia and add Saurik’s source again. If that does not work, run redsnOw 0.9.6rc14 again und use only the option boot tethered now… This should fix it…

    • Billy Tay says:

reboot or power off your device

  54. Zee says:

I had a question… I own an Iphone 4 and ipod touch 3g, I was just wondering, do I have to upgrade the ios using itunes before using redsn0w or just download the ipsw and then use redsn0w to upload it on to the devices???

    • MacPro says:

You definitely need to upgrade first. RedsnOw does not upload any ipsw. It just does the upgrade. If you need to unlock your iphone as well, you should be careful, though. If your base band gets updated you might not be able to un lock it afterwards. You might want to consider using Pawnage Tool 4.3.2 for the jailbreak of the iphone at least… It does not matter for the ipod, though…

  55. MacPro says:

Tried to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS (newer model) to upgrade to iOs 4.3.2 with Pawnage Tool 4.3.2 and redsnOw 0.9.6rc14, but Cydia does not appear. What am I doing wrong? I tried various times with Pawnage and redsnOw, but no Cydia. I can install the Pawned image, but no Cydia. When I run redsnOw over it, it runs through normally, but still no Cydia… Can anybody help me?

Cydia won’t open in JB 4.3.2 original iphone 4 baseband. icon is there and is NOT white. try to open it and it closes immediately. I created teh custom IPSW with pwnage 4.3.2 using the right firmware from apple, but still no luck and no response from anyone has been correct in fixing it. I’d like to keep my original baseband for unlocking purposes which might ultimately have to go bye bye. if anyone can figure this out, you’re a genius.

    • BigBlue says:

After jailbreaking 3gs with RC14, I get stuck on the reboot screen too??

      • anon says:

Start Redsn0w, then do the following:

Task Manager -> Processes tab -> right click redsnow’s process -> set affinity -> uncheck all except CPU 0

Obviously, this is only a fix for multi-core PC’s. If you’re running a single core, you should probably take this opportunity to upgrade.

    • Christopher says:

Me tooooo. When I jailbroken it when i rebooted it. It was stuck at the apple logo. You have to run redsn0w to boot it. Any way how to have your ipod boot itself!!!!

  81. Joe says:

    thnx :)
    problem solved

  82. Parakeet says:

If Cydia doesn’t work after jailbreaking with RC14:

    * If Cydia icon is white – reboot your device

    * Cydia doesn’t load at all after rebooting – run redsn0w again but just select ‘install Cydia’

    * Cydia still won’t work – restore and rejailbreak

Also for Windows users be sure to run Redsn0w in XP Compatability mode!

  83. Joe says:

same problem here , after jailbreaking my 3gs with RC14, cydia wont start ,safari working , any idea ?

As I recalled before, your iphone must have the same software version before jailbreaking. Say you want to jailbreak with version 4.3.2, update your phone first with 4.2.1 locked thru Itunes.
That happened to me before, took me couple hours to figure it out.

Just use redsn0w to install Cydia (Only the Cydia checkbox) after you run your jailbreak.

I recommend using redsn0w for DFU instead of Pwnage Tool.

Then use latest ultrsn0w for unlock and everything works great.

Also…make sure to install Infinifolders BEFORE doing your restore, that way ALL your folders will restore correctly. Its a total mess if you don’t.

          • Chewbacca says:

And your spelling is horrid. “That’s” and “I” should be capitalized, for one. Two, There needs to be a question mark after “it”, because you’re asking a question. Three, it’s “wasting”. Don’t criticize people with grammar like that. Ugh.

When I upgrade to 4.3.2 to jailbreak what will happen to all my stuff? Will it come back when i Re-Jailbreak??

    • Parakeet says:

It depends, if you’re currently jailbroken then upgrading to iOS 4.3.2 will cause you to lose your jailbreak because you have to upgrade first.

If you’re not jailbroken, you won’t lose anything.

      • kmc_434 says:

So im going to lose everything because im already jailbroken.

        • dxf289 says:

You will lose all of your jailbroken apps and will have to re-install them. If they are purchased, just re-login with your credentials and you shouldn’t have to repay for them.
