Upload Images Directly from Safari in iOS 6

Upload an image from Safari in iOS to the web

iOS now lets you upload images directly from Safari using standard web-based upload forms. Not only can you upload directly from the Photos library and Camera Roll now, but you can also upload an image directly from the camera after taking a picture.

There’s nothing fancy that you’ll need to do, just tap any normal upload button from Safari and you’ll see the pop-up image selector shown in the screenshot, whether you’re on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

This is obviously a great feature for anyone who shares pictures around the web through any of the many web-based image services, and also a nice change for bloggers, whether they’re professionals or just your moms simple blogspot. Prior to this, there wasn’t a way to do this outside of moving the photos to a computer and then uploading them that way, or using a native app that supported uploading directly to the given service.

@stopsusa I’ve noticed this problem too, where all image uploads from Safari/iOS are called image.jpg.

Did you find a fix for this issue yet?

it appears now that all $filename variables are renamed to image.jpg when running a php script utilizing $filename = $_FILES[‘pic’][‘name’] on the ipad. Results in duplicate image files in my database after first image.jpg is saved to mysql

Very subtle but ok really, how useful is this?

Very, very, very usefull. In my opinion being able to upload files is very important and should already have been available in the first version of iOS. I always thought it was ridiculous not being able to upload photo’s to a website from iOS and it’s also ridiculous iOS 6 only supports pictures. In my opinion when Pages, Numbers, Keynote or other apps are installed which allow you to create files, these should be added to the “browse button” which you find on websites.

So, you click the browse button and instead of only the two options of the above screenshot, you also get options to upload a file from Pages, Numbers, Keynote, etc.
