How to Add an Outlook.com Email Address to Mac Mail
If you use an Outlook.com email address, you may be interested in setting it up for use on the Mail app for Mac.
Adding an @outlook.com email address for use on the Mac is a fairly simple process, similar to adding other new email accounts to Mail on Mac
How to Add @outlook.com Email Address to Mail on Mac
- Open the “Mail” app on Mac
- Pull down the “Mail” menu and choose “Add Account”
- Select “Other Mail Account…” then click Continue
- Enter the name associated with the account, the @outlook.com email address, and the password, then click “Sign In” to add the email account to Mail
That should be all there is to it, your @outlook.com email address is ready to use on the Mac.
If you use multiple email accounts on Mail for Mac you might find it useful to set the default email account that gets used when you’re sending emails from the Mac.
While this is obviously focusing on adding an @outlook.com email address to Mail on Mac, you can delete an email account from Mail for Mac just as easily, so if you have an old or outdated or redundant email account configured you can simply remove it.
If you have an iPhone or iPad you might want to add the email account to Mail for iOS and iPadOS too.
The Mac Mail app should automatically detect the proper Outlook.com email server settings and not require any additional information, but if you do need to provide mail servers, or if you’re using a different mail client aside from Mail app, you may find the below information to be useful and relevant to you.
What are Mail Server Settings for @Outlook.com Email Addresses?
The email servers and port numbers Outlook.com for IMAP, POP, SMTP, and outbound mail are as follows:
- IMAP accounts: imap-mail.outlook.com, port 993
- POP accounts: pop-mail.outlook.com, port 995
- Incoming mail server: eas.outlook.com
- Outgoing SMTP server: smtp-mail.outlook.com, port 587
Again, the Mail app on Mac should detect this information automatically and not require those details, but if you do need to put in manual information for whatever reason it can be helpful to have it readily available. If you’re configuring Outlook with another email app, you’d likely need this server information. Of course this server info may change eventually, but for now it’s current and works for @outlook.com email addresses.
Note we are talking about using email@example.com email addresses here, not the Outlook mail application itself. @outlook.com email addresses are free to create and use and anyone can make a new one at anytime by going to outlook.com, the email service is provided free by Microsoft. Remember you can also create @icloud.com email address for free too, which is an email service provided by Apple. And of course there’s always Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, ProtonMail, and myriad others available out there was well.
