iOS 12.4.9 for older iPhone and iPad models

Apple has released iOS 12.4.9 for older iPhone and iPad models that are not capable of running the freshly released iOS 14.2 and ipadOS 14.2 updates.

The iOS 12.4.9 update includes security fixes and is therefore recommended to install on eligible devices.

Specifically, iOS 12.4.9 is available for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (6th generation). All newer iPhone and iPad models can instead install iOS 14.2 or iPadOS 14.2.

Related, Apple also released watchOS 6.2.9 and watchOS 5.3.8 for older Apple Watch models paired with older devices, also containing security fixes.

How to Download iOS 12.4.9 Updates

If you’re on an older device compatible with iOS 12.4.9, you can get the security update
From the Software Update mechanism on your device as usual. Be sure to backup the iPhone or iPad to iCloud, iTunes, or backup to Mac with Finder before proceeding with any software update.

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Select “General”
  3. Choose “Software Update”
  4. Choose to “Download & Install” the iOS 12.4.9 update

As with any software update, a reboot is required to complete installation.

Users can also choose to install the update through iTunes, Finder, or with IPSW.

I did an update before and it made the camera crappy. It seems obvious they would add in such stuff to annoy you into getting a newer phone but I ain’t the type. How Can the previous update be undone.
