Apple has released iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2, the latest updates to the iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 operating systems.

iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 include bug fixes and improvements, along with a few smaller features like an addition of the Shazam music identification widget. Additionally, the new software updates include over a hundred new emoji icons, including pinched fingers, a plunger, beaver, Dodo bird, ninja, anatomical heart and lungs, coin, transgender symbol, transgender flag, more gender neutral emojis of humans, multiple insects, plants, a variety of animals including bison and mammoth, and much more. There are also new wallpapers available in the release. The update is recommended for all users running a prior iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 release.

Separately, Apple released MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 Supplemental Update for Macs running Catalina, tvOS 14.2 for Apple TV, and watchOS 7.1 for Apple Watch, and iOS 12.4.9 for older iPhone and iPad models.

How to Download iOS 14.2 & iPadOS 14.2 Updates

  2. Go to “General”

  4. Choose to “Download & Install” the iOS 14.2 or iPadOS 14.2 update when they are shown as available

Completing installation will require the device to reboot.

Users can also decide to update to iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 by using a computer. This can be done either with iTunes on an older Mac or Windows PC, or a Mac with Finder running Big Sur or Catalina. Doing ether computer based update requires a USB cable and connecting the device to a computer.

Another option is also available to advanced users, and that is updating their devices by using IPSW firmware files. The links below point to the firmware updates for particular devices, which can then be installed using Finder or iTunes.

  3. Gerald Servidio says:

Since updating to IOS14.2 on my iPadPro with the Apple Magic Keyboard/Trackpad, I’m seeing a lot of issues:
    1) The delete key won’t work to delete emails, but it works to delete text in an email message
    2) Some times my trackpad won’t scroll with two fingers, I have to push down with one finger and scroll with the other
    3) In the Kindle app, the keyboard arrow keys won’t advance the page
    4) Sometime when I try to remove apps from memory, the ability to use a two finger swipe won’t work

Hopefully they will release an update to fix these annoyances.

This update has not fixed the rapid battery drain of my iPhone 6S. I guess I’ll have to wait and hope that the next update solves this issue. Phone is almost useless at this point. I’m not letting my two iPad Pro’s anywhere near iPadOS 14, iPadOS 13.7 works great.

    • Martin says:

I updated my iPad to 14 and the battery drains faster than with 13, I stimate 12/15 hours in iPadOS 13 and 10/12 hours in iPadOS 14. The improvements in my opinion batter life is more important than new features. I suggest you keep with 13 for now.

  5. Anthony says:

I have downloaded ipad os 14.2 four times so far on an iPad Air 2, waited patiently for “Preparing update” only to get a “Install failed” in a small midscreen popup box.

Close or Retry – the latter just restarts the download all over again. So thats 8-10 GN of download wasted so far.

    Any ideas

Ensure that you have the charger connected when you start the update. Updated uses a lot of power.

    Problem with iPad 14.1 bcc

I have a month-old iPad using iPadOS 14.1 and a strange email fault appears occasionally. The messages sent are always accurate in my “sent” box and reach their destinations correctly, but, occasionally, the correct message content is not shown in my iPad via bcc, but has been replaced by an error message – (This message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program.

    text/plain)

Force-quitting Mail and sometimes toggling airplane mode seems to resolve the issue and the message contents are then shown correctly for an indeterminate time

    Hello,

I’m sorry to bother you, but it seems the link of the 10.2 inch iPad – 7th generation is wrong.

Shouldn’t it be related to the “iPad_Educational” ipsw file instead to the “iPad_Educational_2020” ipsw file?
