Beta 2 of iOS 14.4, iPadOS 14.4, MacOS Big Sur 11.2, Released for Testing
Apple has released the second beta versions of iPadOS 14.4 for iPad, iOS 14.4 for iPhone, MacOS Big Sur 11.2 for Mac, tvOS 14.4 for Apple TV, and watchOS 7.3 for Apple Watch.
The new beta builds are available for both public beta and developer beta testers on any eligible device.
While no major new features are expected in these nexts releases, it’s probable they will focus on bug fixes and refine existing capabilities within the operating systems.
Mac beta users can download the latest macOS 11.1 beta 2 release via System Preferences > Software Update
iPhone and iPad beta users can download the latest iOS 14.4 beta 2 update through Settings > General > Software Update
Meanwhile, tvOS betas are installed with the help of Settings app on Apple TV, and watchOS betas are installed using the Apple Watch app on iPhone.
Beta system software is less stable than final versions and is therefore only recommended for developers and advanced users. While technically anyone can enroll to participate in the public beta testing program, there is little reason to for most casual users.
Apple typically runs through numerous beta versions before releasing a final version to the general public, which suggests the final release of iOS 14.4, iPadOS 14.4, macOS Big Sur 11.2, tvOS 14.4, and watchOS 7.3 are still a ways out.
The most recent final builds of system software are currently iOS 14.3 and iPadOS 14.3 for iPhone and iPad and macOS Big Sur 11.1 for Mac.
