How to bulk image edit on iPhone and iPad with copy and paste edits

Bulk image editing can be a tedious task, but the Photos app for iPhone and iPad has a fantastic feature that makes editing a series of images a lot easier. Essentially how this works is that you make edits to one photo, and then you copy those edits, and paste them to other photos that you want to apply the same edits to. It works great, especially if you’re applying the same type of adjustments to many photos. You can use this to apply the same type of micro adjustments to tons of images, or even major image edits like converting tons of photos to black and white, or bulk apply filters, and much more. How complex the edits are that you want to apply to groups of images is entirely up to you.

Copying and pasting image edits is super easy but if you’re not familiar with how to perform these actions for bulk image editing on iOS and iPadOS, then you may not even know where to begin. Not to worry, we’re going to walk through the steps, and you’ll be applying those bulk edits in no time at all.

How to Bulk Image Edit on iPhone & iPad with Copy & Paste

Start by opening the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad, and lets begin:

  1. Tap to open an image that you want to edit, then tap on the “Edit” button and make your image edits as usual (say to brightness, brilliance, etc)

  3. When finished with your edits, tap the (…) three periods button in the corner, then choose “Copy Edits”

  5. Now tap back to the main Photos camera roll or album view, and tap on “Select” and then tap on each photo that you want to bulk apply these edits to, then tap on the (…) three periods button again and choose “Paste Edits”

  7. The photo edits and adjustments that were copied will now be bulk applied to all images you selected

The image edits are applied nearly instantly, though if you select tons and tons of photos to bulk edit then it may take a moment or two for the adjustments to apply.

This is not only incredibly convenient, but it makes batch image editing an absolute breeze. There’s no longer the need to individually adjust and edit each photo if you don’t want to, you can simply use the Copy Edits and Paste Edits features to apply all those adjustments to tons of pictures all at once.

If you use iCloud Photos (and you should, it’s a great feature and allows for very easy image backups and image syncing across your Apple devices), then you’ll find the edits and adjustments will carry over to everywhere your photos are stored.

This particular article is obviously focused on bulk editing of images with iPhone and iPad, but if you’re a Mac user the same bulk image editing capability exists there which works very similarly except how you go about accessing the Copy Edits and Paste Edits functionality.

What do you think of the Copy Edits and Paste Edits feature? Do you incorporate this into your photo and image editing workflow? Do you have any particular image editing tips or tricks that you like for iPhone and iPad? Share your experiences and thoughts in the comments.

Does not work when adding “mark ups” to photo. Can you advise on this please?

    • Paul says:

That’s correct, while you can apply bulk edits for image adjustments like to color, brilliance, filters, etc, you can not bulk apply markup/text with this capability. Maybe in a future version? You might be able to use Skitch or Shortcuts for what you’re looking to do though, what’s the use case?
